Fishing: Great

I’ve noticed a significant increase in dry-fly activity in the last week. The fish seem to be consistently looking up much more than even ten days ago. The Green Drake hatch continues to hold our attention during the afternoon. I fished the GD hatch Monday and Tuesday afternoon this week. Even though I only saw 4-5 natural GDs, I was able to raise a number of fish on GD dries with about a half-dosen heart pounding refusals. I ended up landing several nice rainbows on GDs. Point being… the fish are looking for GDs even if the hatch is weak. Use GD dries to search likely holding areas.  We have over 30 different GD patterns in our shop!

We’re seeing strong PMD & Caddis hatches as well. Nymphing continues to be consistent.

Shop Tip:  During the Green Drake hatch (and in a couple of weeks, the Golden Stone hatch) the fish lose some of their selectiveness.  That is, the fish get pretty excited about these bugs. It’s a great time cast big dry flies and finally get to know this river, its incredible insect diversity, observe fish behavior, and land some nice ones!!

RAINBOWS: Golden Stone nymphs, Green Drake, Caddis, PMDs, BWOs, midges, Rusty Spinners.

BULL TROUT: always worth the effort. Unique fish, unique opportunity, unique river. Steelhead tactics are good to employ in addition to indicator dead drifting. A variety of streamers and nymphs fool these big fellas. We have a great selection Bull Trout flies.
