Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It was a busy Friday today at Bud n' Mary's Marina in Islamorada! I believe all of the offshore boats got out for some deep sea fishing! The mahi bite has remained decent the last few days. It hasn't been easy but if you're patient and devote the day to it you will catch fish! It's been a similar week like last week with lots of schoolies, but not all keeper fish. We have been having to measure quite a few, but everybody has still had plenty for a few dinners! The last couple of days there's been a handful of slammers (20 plus pound mahi) mixed in as well. Some of the fish have been finicky and tough to get to eat, especially near the full moon that is on Sunday, but the guys have still been tricking enough of the bigger fish into biting. The Pretty Work had a big 42 lb bull two days ago which was a great fish! Most of the boats have been averaging anywhere from 10 - 30 keeper mahi, with some releasing that many that are undersize. The blackfin tuna bite has also been decent the last couple of days. The fun fighting "football" tunas have been biting good on the humps and are ranging from 3 - 8 lbs. The Daytime Swordfish bite has been fair on the front side of the full moon as well. The Bn'M went out the last 4 days in search of broadbills and caught 1 fish 2 of the days, one about 115 and one about 130 lbs, as well as released an estimated 175 lb mako shark, which was a nice suprise. We also released a nice hammerhead shark on the hump the other day that came up eating our tuna. The Catch 22 swordfished 2 days the past week and caught one fish as well. The Gon Fishin V had a nice 38 lb bull mahi in addition to a couple other big fish and a handful of schoolies. The Man O War had a mix of tuna and mahi yesterday, and also a suprise wahoo they caught trolling which weighed about 20 lbs. With this little bit of East wind we have now I'd expect to see some more big mahi caught, and hopefully for the Purple Isle Charity Dolphin Tournament that is being held tomorrow at Bud n' Mary's and at Lazy Days Restaurant.
