Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
NAVARREIt looks like we are in for a little rain in our area next week, so get out and get as much as you can on the water over the weekend before the storms show up.
Not much has changes since last week. The hottest action is happening early in the morning or late in the afternoon and fishing the lighted docks is producing some of the best catches. During the day suspending twitch baits or jig and Gulp combinations can’t be beat for the trout and reds on the flats. Slot reds are also on the deeper docks along with the occasional flounder. Live shrimp fished or live pilchards fished around the pilings continue to be the top producing presentation. Although jigs tipped with a Gulp or Trigger X shrimp is a great presentation for those of who don’t want to mess with live bait. At night the trout and redfish have been feasting on the small baitfish and shrimp that are attracted to the lights. Live shrimp and finger mullet fished without any weight and allowed to drift through the light has been an outstanding presentation. Fly fishermen are probably having the most fun fishing size 4 or 2 solid white or black clouser minnows though as they more closely match the forage the trout and reds are feeding on.
On the pier the king and Spanish bite is about as slow as it can get this week. The shark bite though remains pretty good as well as the occasional tarpon hookup. The redfish and pompano bite has also slowed down. The only reliable catches right now seem to be ladyfish, hardtails and blue fish. The bite in the surf pretty much mirrors what is going on pier right now with the most reliable action coming from sharks.
Offshore the snapper bite is still going strong with the hottest action happening first thing in the morning on the near shore reefs and wrecks. The deeper you get the better and later the bite seems to be and out deep you can also expect red and scamp grouper, mingo snapper, and red porgies. Gag grouper will be opening on the first of July, but amberjacks and triggerfish are still off the menu until August 1, 2013. The cobia bite remains steady with some outstanding catches reported by bottom fishermen targeting snapper. The king bite is still going strong and if anything has picked up some this week off shore especially near the passes during an incoming tide. Most fish are being caught by slow trolling live baits or Yo-Zuri and Mann’s Stretch deep diving plugs around structure. The wahoo bite remains strong out near the edge and out around the Nipple with deep diving plugs, such as Mann’s stretch 25’s and 30’s as well as the new YoZuri Bonita the top producing baits. Out around the rigs the blackfin tuna, yellowfin, mahi, and wahoo bite is in full swing. The same areas are seeing a few white marlin catches as well.
Until next week tight lines and get out there!
