Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Well we've had rain off and on plus a little wind but that is not necessarily a bad thing for july islamorada fishing in the backcountry. It helps keep the heat down and life in the water. I myself was on vacation for a few days though just got back to fishing yesterday. I've included a few other good shots from our tarpon fishing before my vacation. Yesterday we didn't have much luck we looked for tarpon and had plenty of fresh live mullet, though we had north/northeast winds early on which they didnt seem to like. We did catch plenty of blacktip sharks, a big bull shark, some goliath groupers, a few (legal) gag groupers, and even a big 35 lb king mackerel! We also caught a few snappers for dinner plus some small trout and ladyfish. Today I fished a half day and we had to spend time dodging major rain storms, but caught snappers for dinner and jumped 1 tarpon on a live crab and possibly had one other tarpon bite we missed. Capt. Bill Bassett over the weekend reported a good tarpon bite and caught 2 of 6 one morning. Capt. Ben Ekblom also had some tarpon action as well as some nice mangrove snappers, a large cuda, and they found this huge python swimming around while they were catching bait. They caught him in a cast net!
