Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It's almost September and offically 'off season' for many of us here in the Florida Keys. I was out of town for 5 days or so visiting the San Juan Islands off Seattle. Lots of fun out there much cooler weather and cold water. We had a blast and caught some salmon one morning, saw plenty of killer whales, and enjoyed the scenery. Back at home here there has been some decent fishing islamorada in august. Capt. Ben Ekblom has been catching plenty of nice mangrove snappers, many of the larger fish are showing back up in the bay from spawning offshore. He also got a nice juvenile cubera snapper one day which is pretty cool! Capt. Chris Daly has been doing a little poling in the everglades and finding some decent redfish up in the skinny water sight fishing. Yesterday I myself fished a half day we had good fishing in the bay with plenty of mangrove snappers, a few ladyfish, about 15 trout including 6 keepers, and finished off with 5 juvenile snook which was nice. Today we were fun fishing exploring new spots we caught a couple redfish, a snook, a juvenile sawfish, plus some jacks and snappers. Found one spot with a lot of snook though unfortunately we had a boat run us over and blow everything out. Lots of bait in the backcountry including pilchards and mullet which we caught. September often brings much better action with the snook and redfish around the deeper islands moats and creeks of the everglades and mainland shorelines. Tarpon are still possible too and fishing in the gulf can be good as well especially with calm weather!
