9-8-13 Offshore Fishing in Islamorada in September

The Keys are a lot less crowded now compared to a month ago, but that doesn't mean the fish have left! It means there's less boats out there trying catch your possible fish! A few boats each day have been getting out for Islamorada Offshore Fishing, and all of them have been catching fish! The most consistent thing has been the blackfin tuna on the "humps". The tuna have been averaging 3 - 10 lbs, but I have seen a few big boys in the 22 - 27 lb range too! Talk about a good fight on 15 lb spinning tackle! The dolphin (mahi - mahi) bite has been fair. The boats that are patient and dedicate a good portion of the day to searching for them have been putting a catch together. Most of the fish have been "schoolies" (3 - 5 lbers), but there has been some "gaffers" (big enough to use a gaff to bring aboard, 5 - 15 lbs), and a couple of Slammers (20 + lbers that slam everything they can with their tails when you bring them aboard). There was also a couple tripletail caught off floating debris too while catching the mahi. The Reef has been providing lots of action for tasty yellowtail snapper too! There's been some nice "flags" as well, with some fish up to 3 lbs! I imagine the fishing will remain fairly consistent to what we have been seeing the past couple of weeks. We have plenty of boats available the next week here to go florida keys fishing , so give us a call at the marina office and let us set you up with a private charter boat! 1-800-742-7945.

Our Party Fishing Boat, Miss Islamorada, will not be fishing the rest of the month as it is in the boat yard getting yearly maintenance done.
