Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Well it's that time of year now, as we transistion from the summer/fall fish towards our winter time fish. A few off the deep sea fishing boats have been heading "offshore", any where from 10 - 20 miles out, and then some boats are staying on the reef (4 - 5 miles out). A lot of days this time of year we will do a little bit of each, "offshore" and "reef" fishing, on a single trip, since we it can be a gamble to look for mahi. The tuna have still been pretty consistent the past week here while fishing in Islamorada. There's been a mix of blackfin tuna and skipjack tuna out on the "humps". We have been catching live bait and then throwing "live chum" , to get the tuna busting behind the boat, and then we fire out light tackle spinning rods once they are in a feeding frenzy. Most of the tunas have been footballs, anywhere from 3 - 12 lbs. Another highlight the last couple of weeks has been the florida keys shark fishing! There's been some big dusky sharks and bull sharks, up to 300 lbs caught and released! There was a few mahi caught last week, but they seem to be thinning out. I'm sure there will still be a few caught this month, this is typically when the mahi season winds down. Back on the reef there's been lots of action too. The boats anchoring down have been catching a mixed varitey of yellowtail snapper, yellow jack, and cero mackerel. Slow trolling has been producing some king mackerel as well, and they should get better and better. The sailfish are due to show up soon, and if we get a cold front I wouldn't be suprised to see a few flags flying. There's been a couple seen so far but I haven't heard of any releases yet. We are booking quite a few private fishing charters for the next few months, so give the office a call at 305 664 2461 when you're ready to set up your fishing trip!

And on a side note, "Lil' Bud" the cat has been released from the VET's office. He had surgery to repair his broken hip and shattered pelvis. Hopefully within 10 - 12 weeks he'll be back in action on the docks snacking on fish scraps. THANKS AGAIN to everyone who helped him out and wished him luck!
