Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Well the Everglades National Park has been shut down and it has limited options for many of our islamorada fishing guides locally. It's also been off season so we have not been getting ou every day but there have been a few options to hit. Capt. Rick Stanczyk repoted good action on the patches mid-day with a variety of fish, however in the morning they tried running to the gulf for something different though there was not much going on out there and the wind picked up out of the north, so they had to run back towards islamorada. The patch reefs have been a good consistent bet. Capt. Mike Bassett, Capt. Dave Sisung, and Capt. John Johansen had good action out there the last few days. Some nice mangrove snappers, a few hogfish, some smaller groupers, and a variety of other species. Of course wind is a factor, but we've had a few days of more northerly winds which we get in the winter time and that is a little calmer out there. Capt. John yesterday also had some nice crevalle jacks, a few trout and other species, and a nice blacktip shark for a young man. Capt. Ben Ekblom had a mixed bag of snapper, mackerel, and blue runners fishing locally in the bay as well as another nice blacktip shark. Last week Capt. Rick Stanczyk had some tarpon action around the local bridges and caught a nice 50 lber on pilchards. Capt. Ben Ekblom also a couple days ago had some tarpon action on fresh mullet in the morning. There have been some big schools of mullet pushing down with the fall mullet run, so tarpon fishing is also a definite possibility if your looking to do something excited - it will likely be the last of it for a while really until the spring! If your wanting to go florida keys fishing in october, there are still some backcountry options! We are hoping the closure will be over soon, as soon as it is the park should be back open for fishing!
