Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
While the rest of the bay gets thrashed by South-Westerly winds, the southern end around Sorrento and Portsea is still producing squid for those keen to grab some snapper baits. From about Rye onward the bay has been good for squid to 2kg.
James from Unreel Fishing Charters has been giving the squid a bit of a whack down the southern end of the bay lately, with some quality cephalopods getting caught in close around the weedbeds and moorings. His favourite red foil jigs are getting a good run by the squid in around 3 - 4m of water.
Customer Ryan has caught some nice squid from Portsea pier lately, with a few nudging 2kg. His favoured jigs at the moment are the Valleyhill tip run 3.5's along with Yamashita 3.5 deeps, both in natural pilchard patterns.
