Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The fishing has been changing like the weather down here the past few days. We had a front move through Saturday night, with strong winds, and a small temperature drop. The conditions were different Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The wind had changed 360 degrees over the weekend, but it did spark some fish to bite! Last week the reef fishing was still the best bet, being good a couple days and fair a day or two. Most the boats were getting a sailfish bite or two a day, with the Man O War and Bn'M II both releasing one on Friday. On the Bn'M II we also went to the hump to try for tuna, but it was crowded and we only managed one blackfin tuna before coming back to bottom fishing on the reef where the action was good. We had 30 yellowtail snapper and a few cero mackerel. The Man O War also had some yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper and a nice black grouper.
On Saturday we had extremely calm weather, which is typical with pre frontal conditions. The Kalex released a sailfish and had some bottom fish and on the Bn'M II we had some daytime swordfish bites but we just couldn't connect. Yesterday was a completely different story though. The wind picked up over Saturday night, and in the morning we had 20 knot North to North East winds. Another good thing about fishing in Islamorada is even when there's a strong north wind after a cold front, the seas aren't that bad because the way the Florida Keys run East to West, the land mass blocks the seas from building from that direction. We may have a wind chop on the reef, but it's still very easy to fish and be comfortable! As the wind picked up though, so did the Fishing! The Tuna bite was in full swing on the Hump. Both the Relentless and Bn'M II caught plenty of blackfin tuna and skipjack tuna from 4 - 20 lbs. On the Bn'M II we also released a giant 400 lb dusky shark! The Catch 22 stayed on the reef and started out by catching some yellowtail snapper for dinner. Then the sailfish got active! They caught and released 2 singles in the morning. Then around lunch time they hooked a triple header and released all of those. They finished up with another release in the afternoon, going 6 for 6 on sailfish! That's a great day of sailfishing in the Florida Keys.
There's also been a few king mackerel around on the reef as well as some crevalle jacks and barracuda which are great for action. The fishing should continue to get better and better on the reef as we get into the winter months. Give us a call at Bud n' Mary's Marina when you're ready to book a fishing charter and we'll set you up! 305 664 2461 . Islamorada Fishing in November is very good and we have plenty of great boats to show you a great time!
Kev's Cafe will re open for the season tomorrow morning (Tuesday, Nov. 5th) at 6 a.m. Talk about having good box lunches for the boat and some great hot breakfasts!
