11-8-13 Deep Sea Fishing Fishing in Islamorada!

 | By Seamus on 11/5/2013 5:55:01 AM | Views (169)

The northeast breeze continued to blow today, but a lot of boats fished and there was quite a few fish caught! Yesterday the weather was great, with light winds 5 - 10 knots and lots of sunshine. The day before that was windy too, but there was still some fish to be caught while offshore fishing in Islamorada! The sailfish are here now! The boats that have been focusing on fishing for them have almost all had action, and some good numbers too! The Reel McCoy released 9 sailfish today, the Redfish released 4, the Gon Fishin V released a couple, and the Predator released one as well. This is all light tackle, 15 lb test on average, so it makes for an exciting battle when hooked up! The Miss Islamorada did fair on the yellowtail snapper today, catching around 60, but they also had a young man catch and release a sailfish! Not bad for the party boat! Other boats like the Relentless and Kalex had blackfin tuna, mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, barracuda, a couple machi, etc. On the Bn'M II we had a few blackfin tuna and then decided to do a little monster shark fishing! It took over an hour, but Brian caught and released the biggest dusky shark I've ever seen, approximately 500 lbs! His father had fished with the Legendary Frank Mundus many times and was excited to see such a monster. Yesterday the sailfish bite was good for many boats as well. The Reel McCoy released 6 sails, the Relentelss released 3, and the Kalex and Catch 22 each released a couple as well. The Predator also released a sailfish in the morning. The Fearless had a couple nice mahi as well. Three days ago I was the only boat to fish in the rough conditions, but we still had a great day on the edge of the reef with a handful of mahi, including a bull over 20 lbs, big barracuda, nice yellowtails snapper and a couple big mangrove snapper. All in all the fishing is pretty good for most the boats who get an early start, and its starting to look like it's going to be a very good fishing season here in Islamorada.
