Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Out from Black Rock there have been a few anglers doing well on the snapper. Fishing in shallow with soft plastics has seen plenty of school sized fish landed, with a few bigger models in between. Dan from Bent Rods Fishing Adventures has been catching plenty of fish in the 2 - 4kg size range in 17m of water off Black Rock. Most of the the fish have been taking whole Californian squid rigged on twin 5/0's and 30lb fluorocarbon leader.
A few anglers have been frustrated about the sheer numbers of fish around that just won't play ball lately. For the finicky snapper, smaller baits like the one pictured are dynamite. Most angler cube with pilchards for berley, and for the snapper these are little snacks which they can always fit in. Next time you're faced with fish that won't feed, try rigging a cube of pilchard on a 6/0 circle hook, and fish this with as smaller sinker as you can. It will drift back down with your berley cubes and most snapper won't think twice about eating it.
James from Unreel Fishing Charters has been putting customers onto more quality fish again this week, with plenty of snapper in the 3 - 4kg range coming aboard. Baits of pilchard, squid and yakka have again been the most productive baits for the area, with fish coming from 8 - 14m of water.
