Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
There have been a few school mulloway caught around Melbourne over the last few weeks, with most of the metro rivers producing a few. The Yarra, Maribyrnong, Werribee and Patterson rivers have all seen a few caught, with most fish averaging around the 60 - 70cm mark. A few bigger fish have been caught by anglers in the know but they are more cunning. Customers Ahmad and Jovan have been catching a few smaller fish around the 60cm during the week on a mixture of live mullet and mullet strips.
Some of the mulloway have been caught by customers fishing in the bay itself too, with a few odd captures coming from Mordialloc pier along with Brighton rockwall. Baits of fresh squid and good quality pilchards have caught most of them.
Customer Tony has also been hooking up to mulloway lately while fishing land based. Tony caught this nice fish in the lower section of the Yarra river near Newport recently on a 15lb outfit with 30lb leader and twin snelled 5/0 Owner SSW hooks. The bait used was half a pilchard. This mulloway measured 78cm and weighed around 5kg.
