1/15/14 Mid January Deep Sea Fishing Report

 | By Seamus on 1/12/2014 5:20:53 PM | Views (115)

It's mid January here and the Deep Sea fishing in Islamorada has been very good! The sailfish is one of the most sought after "trophy" fishing here in the Florida Keys, and there's been a steady bite here the past few days. Almost every boat that has tried for them has caught them! Most of the boats have been averaging from 1 - 4 fish per day, but the Relentless had an awesome day yesterday releasing 11 sails! There's been plenty yellowtail snapper on the reef for action and dinner too. There's still some king mackerel around on the wrecks and reef as well, they've been averaging 5 - 20 lbs. Not many boats have been putting the time into searching for cobia inside the reef, but there's definitely some around. The Kalex had a decent one a couple days ago. When looking for cobia you have to have patience and cover lots of ground typically to find a school following a stingray. There's also been a handful of mutton snapper caught each day, with a few real big ones weighed in up to 16 lbs! We have a strong cold front approaching right now, which should only improve the sailfishing! The snapper bite may slow down a little, but with the Cheeca Lodge Sailfish Tournament taking place this Friday and Saturday we might be in for an exciting sailfish bite. Give us a call at the Marina and let us set you up for an exciting fishing adventure! 1-800-742-7945.
