Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We had another cold front and though it was a mild one it did cool things off a bit. The tarpon had started showing up good and should still be around though are likely not as happy as they were. This past week we had some good fishing for them. Capt. Rick Stanczyk reported catching large tarpon both in the backcountry and locally around islamorada on fresh mullet. Yesterday he and Capt. John Johansen fished the patch reefs, fishing was good a good mix of porgy, hogfish, snapper, bar jacks, and more. Today we mixed it up a bit caught a handful of mackerel and bluefish in the near gulf, big snappers around the islands, and then some porgy, hogfish, and couple nice groupers out front on the patches. Capt. Perry Scuderi and Capt. Jim Willcox reported snook in the backcountry, Capt. Perry also had a nice permit. Capt. Skip Nielsen several days ago had a good day fishing in the gulf they caught 5 large kingfish on the deeper gulf wrecks with Dick Alt and Bob Leef, fishing Fox Sportfishing rods and reels. He also had Dr. Hugh Dennis on a canoe trip in the everglades, they released lots of snook and a tarpon. Just goes to show anything is possible right now. As it starts to warm up again the tarpon should get happier and we may have some more good early season tarpon fishing action.
