San Francisco Fishing report 02/20/14

Hey Fishermen,

The sturgeon really picked up yesterday. We had good fishing on Saturday and then on Sunday and Monday the fishing slowed to a point where we just landed a few shakers. Then yesterday the fish were off the hook. I had 5 fishermen and some of the 5 were beginners. They missed some good bites but still hooked 10 fish. 3 of the 10 were solid keepers. The last keeper was the best fight of all. That sturgeon tail walked 2 times. When we thought he was finished and ready for the net he got his second wind. He exploded in the net and ripped through it. He peeled off a good 50 yards of line.  We worked him back to the second net and landed the fish. I wish I had that on video like I did most of the battle but Captain Zach was holding the first net while the angler battled the fish and I worked the second net. We quickly took some photos and released the fish. I explained to my crew that they had plenty of fish coming from the first two keepers. Also the bigger keeper put up such a battle, he deserved to go back and fight another day. Also the legendary 49er rod is back on the Flash and landed a sturgeon on its first day back, see photo. All our fish took straight eel except the 2 smaller sturgeon, they took straight grass shrimp. We were in 31 feet of water near the mothball fleet Next week we have some great tides and the fishing should pick even more. I am booked all week except I have some room on Tuesday and Wednesday. Enjoy the photos.
