Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We had some great fishing in Islamorada in Late February the past week out of Bud n' Mary's Marina! The sailfish bite sparked up for a few days which was really nice to see. The Catch 22 and Relentless each released 6 one day, the Cloud Nine had 4 the next day, and the Kalex, Reel McCoy, and the Gimme Jimmy each had 3 releases the other day. Quite a few boats had 1 - 2 releases as well. The weather looks great the next few days, but the calm weather will make it a little difficult to fish for the sails. We had some great bottom fishing conditions too the past week. For a few days the water was a little "dusty" from the south wind we had, and when the water gets a little dirty it makes the reef fish bite! Many boats limited out on yellowtail snapper, there was some big mutton snapper up to 15 lbs caught, there's been a handful of gray (mangrove) snapper up to 5 lbs, some nice cero mackerel up to 8 lbs, and quite a few grouper (but they have to be released until May 1st). The king mackerel have been spread out, with a few on the reef and a few on the wrecks, just not super thick right now. There's also been some barracuda to catch around the reef as well. A couple boats had a handful of mahi too, and we should start seeing a more and more as we get into the Spring months. We should also start seeing a few more blackfin tuna brought in as well as some big amberjacks. Give us a call to set your Islamorada offshore fishing trip up at 305 664 2461 and we'll find the right boat for you!
I made it out on a daytime swordfish trip yesterday on the Bn'M II and we managed to get a couple of strikes. We hooked a good fish, and after 20 minutes had him near the boat, and we estimated him around 150 lbs, but unfortunately pulled the hook when he took off. It was nice to come close, but hopefully the next one gets his picture taken!
