Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
There have been some good numbers of Australian salmon around at the moment, and they will only get better as the water cools off as we come into Autumn. Most of the shore based areas of both bays will see you tangle with some salmon on the right tides. Customer Michael fished locally using a variety of baits and soft plastics to catch whiting, pinkies, mullet and snook along with the salmon.
Staff member Dylan also caught a few salmon during the week while wading some flats in the bay. The biggest salmon were around 1kg, with most being only 15-30cm long. The first half hour of the run in tide was when the bite was best, with every cast resulting in a hook up. The most effective lures were small sinking stickbaits and soft plastics in the 80mm size range, in natural whitebait colours.
Customer Tee also caught some salmon, down at Frankston pier. The best producers have been River2Sea 'sea rocks' in white, pink and blue. The windiest conditions have brought the fish in close and onto the bite.
