Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Last week we talked about catching bass on deep swimming streamers with a fast sinking Teeny 200 Line. However, if you don’t have a sinking head line here is a tactic which works well for me on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River early in the season with streamers such as the Murray’s Madtom Scupin 4 in both Black and Olive and Shenk’s Sculpin 4. I call this “sweeping a streamer”. Standing right beside the deep water I want to fish I make a cast 20 feet long at a 45 degree angle up and across stream. After my streamer sinks deeply I sweep it back down stream. Successive casts are 2 feet longer until I’ve covered the water 30 feet out then I wade downstream stopping every 20 feet to repeat this method.
