Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
We had cold front pass through last night, temperatures didn't drop too much, but the wind did pick up quite a bit. However, it blew from the north west, which makes fishing on the ocean side not too bad! The Key's run east and west for the most part, and when the wind blows from the west to north quardrant the seas don't have time to build very high. We will have a wind chop, but no big swells. The wind looks like its going to drop back down tonight and we are going to have some great weather conditions for the weekend and early next week. The mixed bag of fish continues to be caught the past week here while fishing in Islamorada. There was some real big king mackerel caught this week, with a handful of fish from 30 to 45 lbs, but most in the 5 to 15 lb range. Also while live baiting there's been a few mahi each day, no big numbers, but a few here and there. Each day there has been a few blackfin tuna caught, some small ones while trolling lures, but a few big ones up to 25 lbs while live baiting. The sailfish have been tough overall, but there was a few released today. A lot of times a cold front will spark them to bite, so I wouldn't be suprised to see a few more flags flying this weekend. The bottom fishing on the reef has still been producing steady action with yellowtail snapper, a handful of mutton snapper, and there's been some nice black grouper released (season is closed until May 1st). Out deeper on some of the wrecks and humps the amberjack have been getting thick, with some big bruisers over 50 lbs. They are being caught on both bait and vertical jigs. A few boats went daytime swordfishing the past week and all of them had atleast a shot or two, with the Bn'M releasing two juvenile fish one day, and on the Bn'M II we thought we had a monster on, but it turned out to be a rare Big Eye Thresher Shark, which was 10' long and somewhere around 300 lbs. The shark was released after a few photos. Spring break is here and lots of families are going fishing since it's an activity everyone can do together, so give us a call and let us set you up for a family fishing trip you'll remember forever!
