Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The inshore reef areas around Frankston/Oliver's Hill have been loaded with pinkies and salmon over the last few weeks. There have also been a few squid and whiting in the same areas for anglers looking to persist. Staff member Dylan fished from his kayak in the area during the week targeting pinkies, salmon and flathead. The shallower reef sections and gutters have been good for flathead to around 40cm on soft plastics and hardbodies, while the slightly deeper reef areas have been holding lots of pinkies to around 35cm. A few bigger fish to 1.5kg are mixed in, but normally the smaller fish are quicker to the bait or lure. Dylan caught a few in the 40cm size range amongst a heap of smaller fish by slow trolling hardbodied lures.
Back around Frankston itself there have been good schools of salmon moving around the area. Southwesterly winds have been good in pushing schools of whitebait towards the shore which have put the salmon within reach of shore based anglers. Customer Noori has been catching plenty of nice fish to around 1.5kg from the pier on both bait and lures. Small white metal slugs in the 20g size have been catching their fair share along with small whole bluebait and whitebait under a float.
Patterson River has been running clear and has produced the odd bream for bait and lures anglers this week. Anglers fishing low light conditions with baits of shrimp and prawn are getting a few fish in the river, with the odd small school mulloway caught as well. Customer Rocky has been catching a few bream most sessions, with fish in the 26 - 33cm size range common fare. Having a rod out with a live mullet under a float he has also caught a couple of small mulloway.
Customer Cam took his new boat into the river during the week to throw a few lures around at the bream. Cam got into a couple of nice bream to 40cm on shallow running jerkbaits fished over some sand flats in the river.
