Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Well it is April and that is the start of 'prime time' tarpon fishing here in Islamorada and the rest of the keys. So far it's off to a bang the water is warming back up to good temperatures and no cold fronts in the forseeable future. We've had a great early run with the last week or so being a little slower but now is when people are really counting on tarpon fishing being the big thing so hopefully the fish will have enjoyed the break and be ready to perform. So far it seems so the past couple days we had great tarpon action in the mornings nearby in Islamorada on live mullet. Yesterday Capt. Rick Stanczyk caught 1 out of 4 fish with several others 'cheap shotting' the baits which was very fun. We lost a fish on a crab trap that was a nice one. Today we did better we leadered 3 fish to the boat and had 6 on in total. Lots of activity. Capt. Mike Venezia had some tarpon action this afternoon too he said on his evening trip. Capt. Ben Ekblom has also had some tarpon action around town and got into a good bite of nice jack crevelles and sharks yesterday too. Several days ago Capt. Chris Daly caught 2 out of 3 nice tarpon in the afternoon as well. Evening/night tarpon trips are available just about every day, that is often a great time to get out on the water and the nice thing the fishing is usually getting better as you get closer to dark, plus its very comfortable with the heat and sun. Capt. Bill Bassett has had some tarpon action around town here too in the mornings. Give us a call now is 'tarpon time' live mullet are being delivered every morning and afternoon and guides are ready to catch 'em up! Also be sure to ask your guide about mounting that catch of a lifetime, we work with grey taxidermy who create the best in tarpon mounts to hang on the wall and the best part is you don't have to kill the fish to do it and they last a lifetime!
PS Also Richard Deleon on the party boat Miss Islamorada landed this gorgeous 16 lb mutton snapper in 60 ft water on a ballyhoo plug. Way to go! Be sure to grab some of his fish shape towels which you can find in the tackle shop at Bud n Marys.
