Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Mid april and the tarpon bite is picking up. It seems more fish are starting to show up locally around Islamorada which is good news. We had a mild front come in last night but it did not drop temperatures only a bit of north/northeast wind today. The tarpon did not mind we had a good day catching 3 out of 6 tarpon on live mullet. We also caught some porgy and hogfish on the patch reefs and a big 'mud marlin.' The past few days we've had good tarpon action as well as some nice size mangrove snappers on cut bait. Capt. Bill Bassett had a couple tarpon yesterday as well as several sharks including a big 150 lb bull shark. Capt. John Johansen has had good tarpon action the last few days as well around islamorada. Capt. Chris Daly has been in the shallows with some good redfish action a few days ago. Capt. Ben Ekblom just got his Key Hopper boat back and fixed up he's had some tarpon biting around the local florida keys channels and bridges. Capt. Mike Venezia had a nice tarpon a few days ago as well as some snook in the backcountry everglades. He's also had some good tarpon on the night trips. The next week the outlook is good we will have good falling tide in the late afternoons into the evenings and with more fish showing up it should be good fishing. Winds are suppose to stay out of the east/south the next few days and temperatures are up, a good mix for tarpon fishing in islamorada!
Capt. Rick Stanczyk
