IT MUST BE THE START OF SPRING BREAK because the Park is busy ! LATE SEASON ICE FISHING IS GREAT FROM NOW UNTIL IT’S OVER
NOTES FROM LAKE DILLON: Been fishing Colorado since 1978. Never caught an Artic Char. Heck out of Dillon where they live I barely can catch a fish. It’s a big and deep lake. Amy Duncan a great guide for Big Ed’s Fishing Adventures took Alex and I out on Tuesday. She put us on fish and I caught my first Char. They were tricky indeed and we suffered countless rejections. Changing after every snub. Finally got em to hit a Purple Tiny Tot. Mark it off the bucket list! But it’s all about knowledge and she has it down on Dillon. Thank You Amy seeamyhunt@gmail.com
CPW Winter stocking program at the North Shore boat ramp has dumped lots of fish this Season. Take the kids almost a guarantee catch behind Marina.

PIC # 1: That is a healthy looking Northern and a happy happy young angler. Pic courtesy Cori Johnson
PIC # 2: Got into the Artic Char at Lake Dillion with Guide and Dillon specialist Amy Duncan. Did not catch that on Black Marabou in pic fish got it from the other rig. Purple Tiny Tot with Pink Gulp Maggot was the ticket. Must be 20 or bigger to keep. It was all catch and release that day anyway.
TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: Stocker action continues unabated at the North Shore. It’s a numbers game. Catch a bunch of those then pop a big one. Large fish always chasing small ones. They have also moved down the line to Corral Cove. Look to Rocky Flats, Stoll Mtn, Howbert Point and Witchers Cove for fewer little fish. Shallow water strating to see big cruisers. Work 30 feet or less down to 5. Move around if you can if you see nothing. They could 50 paces away. Lots of different baits working stop in for the latest info.
We like our 11 Mile Krystal Lazers and tiny Tots. You can almost always catch a fish on one of them. It just depends on the color de jour. Orange has been coming on lately as well as greens both dark and light. If the won’t hit your jig drop down to just the bait.
KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO GOOD: Rich K. of Florrisant reported catching a limit out from the Marina last week. No pic to prove it but he has won money in tournaments past. It takes persistence and patience. Reports from the channel out from Deer Island are good with consistent opportunities. You can catch big ones or small ones out of the same grouping. Duck Island has not been as productive but North Shore out from the Marina has. Stop in and we will show you on the map where to try. Electronics a must to be successful. Make yourself a jigging machine. Lots of different spoons have worked. We have caught fish on Kastmaster, Krocodile, Buck Shot Rattle and Swedish Pimple. Pic # 1 fish were 30 to 40 feet deep and hung out for long enough to ice six. The bite was excellent. Drop it pop it hit! No tip of bait no fish. Make sure you always have an offering. Kokannee Specific Guide Trips available.
NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO GOOD: Decent action continues around the lake. There are definately monsters cruising the North Shore getting heavy on easy pickins. Waterdogs, Suckers and 1oz Bucktail Kastmaster with small chunk of sucker meat have done well. We have those Masters in Blue/Silver and Chrome. Look to 12 feet of water or less and rock drop offs. East of Howbert to Witchers or Stoll to points West. Late ice is a great time for the big ones. That’s not yet. Some time in mid March.
SPECIAL NOTE: 11 Mile Marina is located at the North Shore in Eleven Mile State Park, Lake George Colorado. A CPW Park Pass is required on all vehicles entering the Park. Any fees for Guide/Outfitter/Rental services do not include Park fees, CO fishing license or gratuities.
