Red hot in the cold February 15-22 2024

This past week the theme has been BURRR!  It's been cold with this last week bringing over night temps in the mid to high 40's. That's really cold for Miami and it has been bone chilling for a Miami native like me but we have to fish and the fish have been active!  Last week started with Pete and his friend on one day with us generally doing some bone fishing but striking out and the following day with Jake who wanted to catch dinner and slaying the yellow jacks with some solid fish and some snappers.  The afternoon trip after Jake was with Steve and his friend for bonefish and again we struck out.  So far this week the fishing has ben good all around but bone fishing has been slow.  Over the weekend I had Grant for two days of fly fishing whatever would eat a fly and we did well taking shots at a bunch of tarpon and then catching jacks on the first day.  The second day we had some tough weather conditions but found even more tarpon and tossed a bunch ion flies but no takes and the fishing that was so good the day before was dead.  The last three days of this report brought us the coldest weather of the last two weeks and clients asking for bonefish.  This was going to be tough but turns out I found a pocket of water 4 degrees cooler than the surrounding area and the bonefish have been stacked up in there providing for some great trips such as Chad and Nathan going 3 for 5, Jim and Carl going 5 for 7 and Bill and son Wyatt going 3 for 6 and missing a number of more bites through no fault of their own.  It's been cold but it's been good!
