Broome catches
Keep an eye out for tripletail below floating debris like seaweed or branches, this delicious fish loves to lurk below structure! A lovely specimen landed by Chris Saunders @fishing_with_chriso in Broome this week.

Boats

Reef fishing has been productive out wide with red emperor, coral trout and Rankin cod taken in good numbers. In Roebuck Bay tripletail have been caught in good numbers around the moorings and some decent northern mulloway were taken around Black Rock. Bluebone have been caught in close off Entrance Point and Gantheaume Point. Barramundi action in the local creeks systems has been quiet, but they have held good numbers of mud crabs again this week, while threadfin salmon have been caught at the Fingers and in Crab Creek. There is a fair bit of rain and southerly winds expected this week but there should be decent shelter closer to shore.

Shore-based

Lake Kununurra produced the goods again this week for @good_dhu_dhu and his youngster Flynn. Over the past year since making the move to the East Kimberley, this family has mastered fishing this epic spot. Give their Instagram page a follow to keep up to date with their catches which features frequent metrey's!

Barramundi fishers in the Fitzroy River have been rewarded at Telegraph Pool, Langi Crossing and the Cuttings, with live baits the way to go. Fishing has been quiet at the Town Beach Jetty, but a few bream have been hanging around the pylons and the odd small trevally has turned up. Entrance Point has been producing queenfish and trevally. Creek fishing has been slow. As always, the bigger barramundi action was best out at Lake Kununurra.

Big thanks to the crew from Tackle World Broome for their tips! Make sure you pay them a visit for the best gear and advice for your next fishing trip.
Exmouth catches
Avid Swiss fisher Nico Moll @nicomoll6622 is "obsessed with Australia" and we don't blame him when he's catching golden's like this on fly in Exmouth.

Boats

Murky conditions have persisted in Exmouth Gulf. On the far side there have been plenty of queenfish and golden trevally, a few coral trout, decent cod and lots of spangled emperor in the northern areas. School mackerel have been active on the Shoals, while in close a feed of squid can be had for those who persevere. At the Muirons, spearfishers have been getting among the coral trout, while a few red emperor and Rankin cod have been taken but sharks have been a problem. Sharks have also been a nuisance for bottom fishers on the west side as well, so if you get sharked move spots immediately and don’t try and persist in a losing battle. Many crews have fished 50-100m and did well on Rankin cod by moving spots frequently. A nice red emperor around 8kg was landed on a jig in 70m out west. Blue marlin fished well at GAMEX, sailfish were prolific and a few black and striped marlin were about. Wahoo were plentiful throughout the tournament and they have been active north of Tantabiddi around to the Muirons, while dolphinfish have been a prominent bycatch. At the FADs, the dollies have been skittish and a lot of burley has been needed to tempt them. South of Tantabiddi, Spanish mackerel catches have been decent, while spangled emperor have been taken in the lagoons and outside the fringe reefs. Those very hot conditions will stick around this week but the water should be pristine for the boaties.

Shore-based

Decent queenfish and some solid golden trevally have been landed right along Exmouth Gulf, from VLF Bay down to Learmonth. Kailis Beach, the light industrial area and Bundegi have been among the better spots, with the odd giant trevally turning up to smash the hardyhead and mullet schools at Bundegi. Mangrove jack action has tapered off, but a sizeable jack was landed at Dunes Beach on a lure and a few good ones have been taken inside the town marina, along with bream, cod and trevally. Whiting fishing in the Gulf has been steady with bait fishers doing best first thing in the morning. Spangled emperor have been around the tip of the Cape and also down past Yardie Creek, where several nice ones were landed by a fly-fisher.

These great tips were courtesy of the friendly team at Tackle World Exmouth. Swing by their store for the best advice and gear ahead of your next trip!

Kalbarri catches

Boats

Spanish mackerel action has moved south of town, although the odd one has been landed at the Sand Patch. Crews have been starting their troll from straight out of town, then passing Red Bluff, Pot Alley and Island Rock. Surfers at the Blue Holes have reported Spanish mackerel jumping in the waves behind them and Spaniards have been caught at Lucky Bay. Red Bluff has also produced good yellowfin whiting, while crayfishing has been steady. Every morning until at least Wednesday next week is looking great for a send out in the boat so make sure you have a troll for the pelagics.

Shore-based

Two Spanish mackerel were caught and released by a balloon fisher at Red Bluff this week and several others have ben landed there also. Spanish mackerel have taken by ballooners at Wagoe as well, along with decent tuna. A local barista landed a 75cm pink snapper off the cliffs this week and young fishers have been catching sizeable tailor, school mulloway and skippy from the cliffs also. Just make sure you fish with a friend and wear a lifejacket if attempting this. In the mornings at Red Bluff and Wittecarra, tailor and dart have been the main catches. In the Murchison River good cod and bream to 35cm have been landed, blue swimmer and mud crabs have been about and the odd mangrove jack has turned up. Decent yellowfin whiting have been caught on the far side of the river.

Shout out to Dean from Kalbarri Sports and Dive for his tips! Feel free to venture into his store to ask for advice if you're wetting a line around Kalbarri!
Geraldton catches
Standard yak pulling Sambo for @mat.svenson off Gero this week!

Boats

Crews doing the miles have been finding Spanish mackerel near African Reef, at Mid Reef, north of Coronation Beach and up to Horrocks, with the mackies often active around the numerous bait schools that have shown up. If you see bait on the sounder, make sure the lures or baits are out the back and troll at 4-6 knots. Decent tuna have been keeping them company, but sharks have been a challenge, so try free spooling your reel if sharks are on their tail and if possible, have someone hold the rods as you troll so you can react faster. Around town a few dinghy fishers have been dropping nets for blue swimmer crabs with decent results. There are some hot days rolling in with moderate easterly winds so the water should be quite flat. The mornings are looking decent for the boaties until at least Wednesday at this stage.

Shore-based

Weed has been a challenge, but tailor catches have been improving. Good fish have been taken in the mornings at Southgates and Tarcoola Beach, while both the points at Greenough have produced at times. Tailor have also been caught from the southern end of the reef at Drummond and an 18kg mulloway was also landed out that way as well. School mulloway and tailor have been taken north of Coronation Beech, while good tailor have been caught down at Dongara.  The town and Batavia Coast Marina rock walls have produced bream to 35cm and a few school mackerel around 55cm have been causing havoc, with bust-offs common. The north side of the Batavia Coast Marina has produced herring, tailor and the odd squid, while herring have been plentiful in front of the Sail Inn and up at Sunset Beach. Blue swimmer crabs have been active in the marinas.

Thanks to the team at Geraldton Sports Centre for their tips! They will happily provide you with great gear and the solid advice for your next fishing trip.
Lancelin catches
Dean Wyatt joined Peter Fullarton on a beautiful morning this week to find school-sized mulloway were abundant in the surf and great fun to battle.

Boats

Offshore there have been plenty of bonito and random schools of tuna about. Trolling behind the reef or where there are bait schools around is always a good chance of a Spanish mackerel. The 20m depths were good for a feed of sand whiting and skippy were schooling along the inshore reefs, with some big 60cm bruisers among them. Inside the bay there were some great sessions on herring and squid, along with snook, flathead and skippy. Lobster pots have been holding good numbers along the nearshore reefs. Both days this weekend are looking great for the boaties but Sunday is looking much more windy.

Shore-based

The beaches have been alive with herring this past week and 30cm+ sizes have been a common occurrence. The schoolie mulloway have persisted throughout this summer, with reef breaks and gutters generally where the mulloway and the larger tailor have been lurking. Mulies on gang hooks have been the go but they have also been chomping down on whiting and herring. Snapper have been difficult to find off the cast and the catches that have been in close were mostly late night specimens. Plenty have been taking baits off 200m drone drops and with the howling easterly expected early on Sunday morning, ballooning could be possible if you don't have a drone.

Big thanks to Peter Fullarton for his tips on what's biting around Lancelin each week! If you want Peter to put you on to the fish directly, make sure you check out his Tailored Treks Tours page. Always a great time and Peter knows the best spots around Lancelin like the back of his hand.

Esperance catches

Boats

Plenty of big nannygai have been caught at Figure of Eight Island, while monster queen snapper have shown up at Observatory Island. Out wide, Dart Reef and Giant Rocks have produced breaksea cod, harlequin fish and nannygai, while big Samsonfish and yellowtail kingfish have been active at Mondrain Island. Tuna have been plentiful at Cull Island and Cape Le Grand. Wylie Bay has held a nice mix of King George and sand whiting, while Esperance Bay has been invaded by hordes of big herring and also held good numbers of squid. This morning saw pleasant conditions, but those howling easterly winds will return this weekend. Tuesday morning is looking like the next best window on the forecast.

Shore-based

Thomas River has yielded gummy sharks and small mulloway, while Dunns Rocks has produced skippy to 3kg and small mulloway. Stockyards Beach has fished well for big sand whiting, flathead and tarwhine, while 14-Mile and Salmon Beach have been the salmon hotspots. Big King George whiting have been caught at the town foreshore, while Bandy Creek Boat Harbour has held smaller models but in better numbers. There has been a red-hot herring bite at the Taylor Street rock wall and the Town Jetty, while squid have been caught at both the Taylor Street and Town jetties. Bream have been taking lures at Woody Lake.

Hats off to the very knowledgeable team at Southern Sports & Tackle for their tips! These guys love their fishing as well, so make sure you swing by their store for the best gear and advice before wetting a line around Esperance.

Great Southern catches
The Albany FADs were going OFF this week and Alesandro Daniele was just one of many fishers taking advantage. There is a hot pocket of water surrounding the FADs at the moment and Western Angler Editor Scott Coghlan also paid the devices a visit, reporting loads of dolly hookups on lures, plastics and live baits.

Boats

Dirty water from the recent heavy rain has made fishing difficult. When clearer patches can be found parts of King George Sound have offered herring, sand whiting, skippy and King George whiting but squid numbers have been down. Drop netters have been pulling up blue swimmer crabs in Princess Royal Harbour. Bigger boats that made it out to the FADs have done extremely well on dolphinfish and we strongly recommend paying them a visit when the weather allows. There has been little action on the coral ground and it is unlikely that boats will be able to pay them a visit until the better conditions roll through on Tuesday morning. Expect some very strong easterlies over the coming days.

Don't have a boat big enough to tackle the FADs off Albany? Don't worry, there are hungry, football field-sized schools of salmon in close. A great fish and quality snap from @corren.wakelam.

Shore-based

Salmon reports and catches have been steadily improving. Beaches east of Albany have been the most consistent spot, especially around Bluff Creek, but Cable Beach, Reef Beach, Fosters Beach, Lowlands, Shelley Beach and Nanarup have all fired and they have been in good numbers at Bremer Bay. Murky water and fast-flowing currents have made fishing difficult in the King and Kalgan rivers, with bream fishers instead heading towards Denmark to fish the Hay River and the upper sections of Wilson Inlet. Likewise, Oyster Harbour has been shut down, although Princess Royal Harbour has continued to offer blue swimmer crabs for scoopers. Squid chasers have done well in Frenchman Bay where the water is much clearer. Herring and small King George whiting have also been caught there.

Cheers to the Trailblazers Albany crew for their fishing tips this week! Swing by their store if you're after some top gear and advice ahead of your next fishing trip. Remember, you'll also catch just as many fish off the beaches than the rocks and it is always much safer to go with this option on the south coast.

South-West catches
Jeremy Mole @southwest_oz managed to find a nice school of southern bluefin tuna when trolling only 1km off Gracetown this week. Some of the best sashimi known to man!

Boats

Not a great deal has been happening offshore with crews perhaps content to wait for the lifting of the demersal ban on Tuesday, although the pelagic action is pretty solid so it’s worth having a troll. Spanish macks have been sighted at the southern end of Bouvards Reef, while good hauls of skippy have been taken just off Dallyellup. King George whiting have been hard to find, but a few Samsonfish have been pulled up from the lumps along with decent skippy. Squid fishing off Bunbury has been reasonable and cuttlefish catches have improved as well. In the Leschenault Estuary drop netters have had to stay out a bit longer to get their bag limit of blue swimmer crabs, but they have been doing well trolling for chopper tailor and herring in between pulls. Squid, skippy and King George whiting have been caught in Geographe Bay. Kayak fishers have been doing well on squid off Abbey Beach with purple, white or avocado Shimano Sephia Flashbooost jigs in 2.5 size working well. Saturday is looking windy but midday on Sunday looks best this weekend, next week is looking calmer.

Shore-based

Pink snapper catches have been steady across both sides of Bunbury, from Preston Beach all the way down to Busselton. Tailor fishing has been consistent too, with good fish around the 50cm mark taken at Myalup, Belvedere and Buffalo beaches. Most beaches have been holding herring and sand whiting, but mulloway of any size have been scarce. Mulloway have turned up in the Collie River, but they have been small ones at that and they were kept company by giant herring around the 30cm mark. Herring and chopper tailor have been at the Bunbury Cut and down at Dalyellup and herring have been prolific at Back Beach. Blue swimmer crabs have been widespread in the estuary system, but they are thinning out and scoop netters have been doing best in the early mornings and in the evenings. A bream competition in the Blackwood River produced some good fish last weekend, while salmon chasers have found a few fish way down at Yeagerup Beach and small schools have been sighted at Bunker Bay and Smiths Beach. Busselton Jetty has produced bonito in ones and twos off the deep end and Samsonfish have also been caught there. Closer in the jetty has been consistent for herring and squid.

Big cheers to Whitey's Tackle & Camping for their top fishing tips as always! If you're in Australind or Bunbury and are keen to wet a line throughout our South-West make sure you ask their very friendly team who love their fishing for advice and stock up on gear at their store. If you're in Busselton, the 2 Oceans Tackle team are also incredibly helpful.

Things that are certain in life. Death. Taxes. Harley Reid's don't argues. @freshwest_ finding solid trout in our South-West.
Early mornings have been the best time for those chasing redfin perch and Harvey and Wellington dams have been the better spots, especially the deeper sections. The Collie River has been throwing up a few as well but they have been small. Not much has been happening on the trout front, but if you're willing to put in the distance on foot to find running water and cast behind it where it drops off then your odds will improve. At Hooneymoon Pool small rainbow trout have been about in big numbers feeding on insects on the surface, but have been showing no interest in lures, flies or baits. The challenge has been set!
Mandurah and surrounds

Boats: Pelagic species continued to tempt and tease, with Spanish mackerel seen slicing through the water off Dawesville and the Five-Fathom Bank but more have been sighted than caught. If your lures are out the back whenever you move around your odds will improve. Dolphinfish have been in good numbers though and crews have been doing well at the FADs. The main problem though has been finding clear water inshore, which has hampered pelagic fishing. And when clear water can be found squid catches have been good at Melros and Seascapes and sand whiting have been plentiful inside the Five. Samsonfish and the odd yellowtail kingfish have also been at the Five. Crayfishing have greatly improved on the inshore reefs, while in the Peel-Harvey Estuary blue swimmer crabs have been widespread and in big numbers, along with herring, tailor, skippy and juvenile salmon. Conditions this weekend should allow a decent send out in the boats.

Land-based: The beaches have been fishing very well with the more sheltered ones producing good numbers of garfish, herring and sand whiting. Tailor fishing has also been good from White Hills right up to Silver Sands, with Seascapes one of the better spots. These beaches have also been holding big numbers of juvenile mulloway. In the Peel-Harvey Estuary scoop netters have been finding blue swimmer crabs widespread and have been getting plenty of them in close, while yellowfin whiting chasers have been catching plenty of smallish tings on surface lures and vibes at Boundary Island and Coodanup. Bream have been holding mainly in the canals, while at the Dawesville Cut herring, garfish and tailor have been caught.

Thinking of wetting a line around Mandurah? These great tips were courtesy of the super friendly and helpful team at Tackle World Miami so make sure you swing by their store for the best tips and gear before your next fishing trip!

SECRET HARBOUR / PORT KENNEDY / ROCKINGHAM / SAFETY BAY / WARNBRO SOUND

Boats: Squid catches have continued to improve and King George whiting numbers have been impressive, along with the sizes. The better spots for both species have been inside of Garden Island, Mangles Bay and on Parmelia Bank. Shag Rock near Carnac Island has produced decent skippy and quite a few herring as did the Garden Island causeway. There have been a few Spanish mackerel sightings behind Garden Island and towards the Five-Fathom Bank, while dolphinfish have been at the FADs, but they have been skittish. It pays to keep your distance from the FAD itself and try mixing up your tactics from different retrievals across different lures or trying live baits. Blue swimmer catches continued to be consistent in Cockburn Sound which has also held tailor, as did the exposed inshore reefs. Samsonfish have been taken around the lumps behind Garden Island. This weekend is looking inviting for the boaties.

It wasn't just the Albany FADs firing this week for dolly's, Rockingham was also popping off with this nice dolphinfish for @nonstopfillets.

Land-based: The strong run of tailor has shown no signs of slowing and consistent catches have come from Secret Harbour, Port Kennedy and Long Point in the mornings and evenings. Herring and whiting have been around as well, while at the Penguin Island spit sand whiting, herring and the odd flathead has been landed. Plenty of scaly mackerel have been holed up at the Rockingham, Palm Beach and Ammo jetties where herring, small chopper tailor and the odd squid have been the main catches. Point Peron has offered herring and sand whiting and better numbers of squid. Expect a few good mulloway and pink snapper to turn up on local beaches as well. Plenty of blue swimmer crabs have been about for divers swimming out from the Rockingham foreshore.

These great fishing tips were provided by the friendly team at Compleat Angler & Camping World in Rockingham, so make sure you chat to their experienced crew in store and stock up before heading out!
Perth catches
You know Perth is in the middle of a mad metro mackie run when spearfishers like @zacboglio and a couple of his mates can spear at least eight Spaniards between them in one session! Time to start diving and trolling folks before the waters start to cool down!

Boats

The hot burst of pelagic actions has continued with Spanish mackerel active from Ocean Reef and the Three-Mile Reef to Parker Point on Rottnest Island’s West End and along Duffield Ridge. A few shark mackerel have been hanging about as well, along with some decent yellowfin tuna. Big wahoo have been taken from the FADs, which have also attracted plenty of dolphinfish and even a couple of blue marlin have shown up. Most of the mackerel chasers have been trolling hard-bodied lures such as extra-deep-diving Halco Laser Pros in the 169-190mm range and GTX Nomads, but others have had success trolling live baits or ganged garfish rigs. Tailor have been active inshore of South Fremantle and also at Mewstones and Stragglers. Good skippy have been caught at Stragglers and Samsonfish and yellowtail kingfish have been taken there by crews floating baits. Squid catches have been consistent with South Fremantle and Rottnest Island’s bays producing. Nice sand whiting have been taken out towards the shipping channel, while Cottesloe and City Beach waters have also produced. The sandies have been mixed in with King George whiting at the Windmills. King George whiting catches have generally been inconsistent, but some good hauls of big fish have been taken at Rottnest, off South Fremantle at around the Three-Mile Reef. In the Swan River the deeper pockets of Mosman Bay and Blackwall Reach have been the hotspots for blue swimmer crabs.  Despite some good tailor being landed from the shore trolling for them in the river has been hard going. Saturday morning is looking best this weekend and Sunday will see a strong easterly wind early in the day before it tapers off. Next week should see the flat conditions once again.

A 22kg PB metro yellowtail kingfish for Clay Lewis @clays_saltyvibez this week! An absolute beauty for the avid fisher.

Shore-based

Good tailor have been coming from Coogee, Catherine Point, Cottesloe, North Mole, Quinns and Hillarys on the inside and outside of the marina. Herring and garfish have been caught at North and South Moles when burley has been used, while the rock walls along Mews Road have produced herring, skippy, chopper tailor and whiting, plus the odd squid. City Beach, Swanbourne and Floreat beaches have produced good numbers of herring in the mornings, sand whiting, flathead and a few chopper tailor. Fremantle Harbour has been full of scaly mackerel and a few herring have turned up as well. In the lower reaches of the Swan River scoop netters have been finding crabs at Point Walter, Attadale and Alfred Cove, while yellowfin whiting have been caught on calm nights round East Fremantle. A few tailor around 50cm have been taken around Canning Bridge which has also been a consistent spot for school mulloway. Mt Henry Bridge has produced a few school-sized mulloway as well. The Applecross and Como areas have produced good tailor too, but not in big numbers either. Small giant herring have been caught on top-water lures in the middle sections of the Swan. Bream chasers have found fish at Canning Bridge and further up the Canning River at the Mt Henry, Shelley and Riverton bridges, while in the Swan River the Causeway to Maylands stretch has been a good starting point and that area has also produced decent flathead, while tarwhine have pushed up river as well and have been mingling with the bream. All across this weekend is looking great for land-based fishing, especially off the beaches with that easterly wind in your back. Sunday morning could even allow balloon fishing if you don’t have a drone.

A big thanks to Anglers Fishing World in Fremantle for their great tips! These guys love their fishing just as much as we all do, so make sure you ask their super friendly team for advice and stock up before wetting a line off the land or boat!
