Broome catches
A stunning PB goldie for @katsbigadventure up in the Kimberley! This whopper was pulled up from 60m on the trusty @vexedfishing Bottom Meat.

Boats

Spanish mackerel have been abundant in close, while sailfish were in good numbers offshore from Barred Creek and Coconut Wells. Reef species have been going well out wide with good catches of red emperor, coral trout and saddletail snapper reported this week, while the shallows at Gantheaume and Entrance Points have continued to fire for bluebone. The town’s creeks have been very quiet for finfish, but mud crabs have been plentiful. Crab and Willie Creeks have produced a few mangrove jack. Those nasty easterly winds are looking very grumpy until at least Wednesday and it will make it tough going out on the boats, with the swell also hitting 1.5m at its peaks until then. If you wish to duck out aim to tuck right in close to the coastline for shelter.

Shore-based

Another cracker of an Ord River barra landed by @good_dhu_dhu out east!

A good barramundi was landed at Town Beach this week, while the jetty has offered small whiting, queenfish and cod. Big queenfish have been caught from the rocks at Gantheaume and Entrance Points. Willie Creek has fished well for mangrove jack, while a few permits have been ghosting on the flats at its entrance. Threadfin salmon have been active at Eighty Mile Beach, while Barn Hill has held whiting and the odd Spanish mackerel. Low water temperatures seem to have shut down barramundi fishing in the Fitzroy River. While these persistent and pesky easterly winds look pretty ugly over the next week they could provide a lot of assistance if you wish to flick a line off Gantheaume Point or Cable Beach.

Big thanks to the crew from Tackle World Broome for their tips! Make sure you pay them a visit for the best gear and advice for your next fishing trip.
Exmouth catches
@johnnyutah29 has had a pretty enjoyable couple of weeks up in Exmouth, with a nice swordfish plucked out deep last week and this cracker of a GT a few days ago.

Boats

Strong and cold easterly winds have made fishing a challenge, but the west side has offered a little relief. A few black marlin have been caught in 150-200m with tuna and dolphinfish among the bycatch, while bottom fishers have encountered goldband snapper in 70-100m. Red emperor and coral trout have been caught in 40-60m. Spanish mackerel seem to have gone quiet, but the lagoons around Tantabiddi have thrown up a few spangled emperor. Strong winds have curtailed access to the Muirons with no reports coming in, while fishing in Exmouth Gulf has not been very pleasant either. Squidding has been hard work in the Gulf, but garfish have been about in good numbers. The Shoals have been very quiet with just the odd blue-lined emperor and school mackerel hanging around. The pesky easterly winds are sticking around this week and midday will see them at their strongest until at least Tuesday. With the swell hovering around 2m for a majority of that time most fishers will opt to fish the west side, but the mornings and evenings in the Gulf should see calm conditions.

A special shoutout to two awesome captures up in our Pilbara region! Little Isla (top image) started catching some bait aboard @bluelightningcharters in the Montebello Islands this week before turning it into a lovely coral trout on her birthday! The bottom image shows the 88cm GT landed by avid fisher @junior_grassy off Point Samson back on Australia Day that has officially been classified as a new Junior Angler World record and IGFA All-Tackle Length Junior World record for the species!

Shore-based

In the Exmouth Gulf, the town marina has held small trevally and queenfish, along with bream and cod. Some bigger trevally and squid have been caught from the outside rock wall. Whiting fishing throughout the Gulf has been mixed, with Learmonth one of the better spots and some decent queenfish also being caught from the jetty. Respectable queenfish and trevally have been caught at Bundegi, while the tip of the Gulf has offered spangled emperor and golden trevally. Tantabiddi has been very hectic around the boat ramp with most crews favouring the west side, but it has produced a few spangled emperor and the odd dart.

These great tips were courtesy of the friendly team at Tackle World Exmouth. Swing by their store for the best advice and gear ahead of your next trip!

Kalbarri catches
They might not be the best eating species, but longtoms are certainly very prehistoric looking, with @survivingfishingadventures landing this well-armed predator north of town.

Boats

The water has remained fairly clear despite this week’s rain, allowing crews to get among Spanish mackerel along the cliffs, at the Sand Patch and off Red Bluff. Pink snapper have dominated demersal catches with good fish landed at Sand Patch, Bald Head and along the cliffs. Crayfish have also been plentiful inshore. It doesn't look too bad on the forecast with the swell gradually dropping from 2m to 1.2 by Sunday and light to moderate easterly winds expected, but there will be a bit of chop out on the water.

Shore-based

Tailor have been consistent at the river mouth, Red Bluff and Wittecarra and when the swells were up early in the week pink snapper were also landed at Red Bluff. The cliffs and Pot Alley in particular have been fishing well for pink snapper, baldchin groper and school mulloway. There has been mulloway action in the Murchison River at the marina jetty, with fish in the 70-80cm range landed. The pens near the jetty have produced mangrove jack, including a 60cm model which was landed this week. Bream around the 30cm mark and decent cod have been caught from the marina and upriver, while giant herring have been caught a fair way up as well. There have been yellowfin whiting landed towards the river mouth and it has been worth chucking in a drop net for mud crabs at the marina jetty. With the moderate easterly winds expected ballooning is a good option over the weekend.

Shout out to Dean from Kalbarri Sports and Dive for his tips! Feel free to venture into his store to ask for advice if you're wetting a line around Kalbarri.
Geraldton catches

Boats

There has been very little boating activity this week, but larger boats should be able to duck out wide for a fish this weekend. Out at the Abrolhos Islands tuna and Spanish mackerel have been active. Geraldton’s inshore waters have generally been too dirty to entice squid fishers out in their dinghies. She's not looking too comfortable out on the water across the coming days with a decreasing swell of 3-2m between today and Sunday and moderate to strong north-easterly winds expected.

Shore-based

A few pink snapper were landed from the Batavia Coast Marina rock wall last weekend. The marina’s north side, when clear of weed, has also been consistent for tailor, big herring, yellowtail and pike when clear of weed, with micro jigs proving effective on most species. South of Flat Rocks an angler enjoyed a hot session on tailor up to 80cm with school mulloway being reported down that way as well. At Greenough, pike in the 40-50cm range have been in good numbers at the first and second points where a few tailor have been swimming with them.

Thanks to the team at Geraldton Sports Centre for their tips! They will happily provide you with great gear and the solid advice for your next fishing trip.
Lancelin catches

Boats

It seems everyone was watching the weather window for Thursday when the swell and wind dropped to nothing! The beach was full of boat trailers and it seems that everyone had a magic day on the water catching some fine fish and seeing the whales performing. Some good dhufish and pink snapper came from the 30-40m depths. Dinghy fishers were getting into some quality inshore fish with skippy, dhufish, snapper, breaksea cod and Samsonfish caught inside the White Bank. The 25m depths have anchovy schools passing and skipjack tuna have been smashing the bait balls. Inside the bay there were plenty of herring, snook, King George whiting, squid and some good size sand whiting. Despite the swell hovering above 2m today and the low to moderate easterly winds expected across today and Saturday you should be able to launch, but it will likely be quite choppy the further you head out. Sunday onwards will see some ugly northerly winds come raging in.

Shore-based

The jetty has been fishing well with Samsonfish smashing the baitfish that shelter there, while squid and sand whiting have been caught by day. As the sun sets, herring, skippy and tailor have been on the bite. At this time of year the bay's beaches are very clear, clean and very productive and it’s a great sheltered spot for the kids to cast a line with skippy, herring, tarwhine, sand whiting and King George whiting on offer. The surf beaches produced some great mulloway action with fish turning up at any time of the day for the anglers putting in time to soak some baits. Tailor have been in great sizes and were in fat condition, albeit in lower numbers for this time of year.

Big thanks to Peter Fullarton for his tips on what's biting around Lancelin each week! If you want Peter to put you on to the fish directly, make sure you check out his Tailored Treks Tours page. Always a great time and Peter knows the best spots around Lancelin like the back of his hand.

Esperance catches
Gideon Mettam @gidos_fishing_adventures wrangled in another cracker of a harlequin in his most recent YouTube video, click here to check it out!

Boats

Wild weather made offshore locations pretty much unfishable early in the week, but as the wind dropped and the swells eased nannygai fired up at Observatory Island and Sandy Hook. Big Samsonfish were landed at Black Island, while Cull Island yielded tuna. Squid fishing has picked up in Esperance Bay. Between today and Sunday should hold nice conditions with lower winds and a steady 1.5m swell. The water should clear up and see an improvement in squid catches for the Chase the Kraken comp!

Shore-based

Nice gutters formed on the beaches after the cold front. The 14-Mile Beach now has some very fishy holes which produced gummy sharks, mulloway and salmon, while Fourth Beach has gone OK for salmon as well. There have been lots of herring and a few King George whiting in the sheltered corner of the port, while the Town Jetty has fished well for squid first thing in the morning. Bream, herring and King George whiting have been active at Bandy Creek Boat Harbour, but bream fishing has been very quiet at the lakes. Thanks to the better conditions across this weekend the squid catches should improve off the local jetties as the water continues to clear up so get out there.

Hats off to the very knowledgeable team at Southern Sports & Tackle for their tips! These guys love their fishing as well, so make sure you swing by their store for the best gear and advice before wetting a line around Esperance.

Great Southern catches
If the weather is looking ugly on the coast, venturing inland and fishing the river for big black bream can still produce a fun day out on the water, with @jeremy___jay landing this solid specimen up against the structure.

Boats

Most of the past week has been a write-off with howling winds and huge swells. Before the foul weather King George Sound produced big squid in good numbers along with reasonable King George whiting. it’s looking decent from Friday onwards with crews sure to be targeting the coral ground and even getting out to the shelf. Despite a bit of rain across today and tomorrow the conditions out on the water look favourable with a 1.7-2m swell and low winds expected. Sunday onwards will see the moderate northerly winds return, but boats tucked in close to the mainland should be able to find some decent shelter.

Shore-based

Local beaches have been cut up by the blow, so caution is urged when driving on them. They were unfishable this past week, forcing anglers to target the King and Kalgan Rivers for bream, which had been running well. The rivers started to get dirty this week, but they should clear by the weekend. The town marina and Emu Point could be too murky for squid, but they should offer a few herring, skippy and black bream. Whalers Cove and Frenchman Bay could be a good option for squid chasers and might throw up herring and small King George whiting as well.

Cheers to the Trailblazers Albany crew for their fishing tips this week! Swing by their store if you're after some top gear and advice ahead of your next fishing trip. Remember, you'll also catch just as many fish off the beaches than the rocks and it is always much safer to go with this option on the south coast.

South-West catches
With calmer conditions across today and tomorrow the squidding action should improve, with Trudy Morehouse @squidqueen.wa landing this spotted beauty recently straight out from Busselton. Always a great first option to target if you want some fresh bait or a tasty feed to take home.

Boats

The weather has been pretty lousy, but the anchor-burley pink snapper chasers found a few midweek windows and had no trouble getting a feed in 8-10m out from Bunbury, Busselton and Dunsborough. Solid skippy were among the bycatch. Kayak fishers targeting squid in Geographe Bay had to deal with poor water clarity this week, but they picked up a few in 3.5m and 5m, along with small King George whiting. Shimano Sephia squid jugs in the avocado colour worked well. Today and tomorrow are definitely your best bets to duck out with lower winds and sunshine expected. Sunday onwards will see the northerly winds take a big spike in strength.

Shore-based

Last weekend’s blow didn’t produce the big numbers of pink snapper expected but most beaches threw up a few, including Preston, Belvedere, Buffalo, Back Beach and the Bunbury Cut. Tailor have been taken in ones and twos from these beaches and herring have been in good numbers. Busselton Jetty fished very well for pink snapper during the blow and also threw up a few mulloway. Geographe Bay also rewarded pink snapper chasers.

Big cheers to Whitey's Tackle & Camping for their top fishing tips as always! If you're in Australind or Bunbury and are keen to wet a line throughout our South-West make sure you ask their very friendly team who love their fishing for advice and stock up on gear at their store. If you're in Busselton, the 2 Oceans Tackle team are also incredibly helpful.

Finding the faster flowing water and whitewash has been the go for finding the hungry trout, with experienced freshwater fisher Simon Holland @southernforests_angler landing this wild rainbow in the Pemberton region.
Redfin perch went nuts this week with good fish coming from Harvey Dam and the Harvey River, the Pemberton Region, the Collie and Capel Rivers and Wellington Dam. Small hard-bodied lures, especially the Bullet minnows, and soft plastics have worked best. A few rainbow trout have been about early in the morning at Wellington and Harvey Dams. They haven’t been overly enthusiastic about taking lures, but many have succumbed to Berkely Gulp Nuggets. Pemberton’s Big Brook and Lefroy Brook have been more consistent for rainbow trout.
Mandurah and surrounds
If you catch any decent fish around Mandurah, make sure you send a snap of your catch in to the @tackle_world_miami crew for a chance at winning a $50 Tackle World Miami voucher and you'll also feature in their weekly fishing report released every Thursday. Kyle took out this week's prize with this healthy pinkie landed off the beach close to town!

Boats: Pink snapper have become entrenched on the Five-Fathom Bank and off Dawesville while a bit further out dhufish and the odd baldchin groper have been caught in the 30m depths. Inshore pink snapper chasers have also found plenty of big skippy and the odd Samsonfish. Herring and tailor have been caught in the Peel-Harvey Estuary which has also been fishing very well for squid, especially on the deeper weed beds near the Dawesville Giant. Both today and tomorrow are looking best on the forecast before the stronger northerly winds arrive from Sunday onwards.

Land-based: The Mandurah rock walls and the Dawesville Cut have produced pink snapper, as has White Hills. Beaches north of Silver Sands have fished well for tailor and school mulloway. The Cut has also produced good numbers of herring and some squid on the morning incoming tides. Good bream and soapy mulloway have been in the lower reaches of the Murray River, while the Mandurah bridges have held a few herring and lots of small silver bream.

Thinking of wetting a line around Mandurah? These great tips were courtesy of the super friendly and helpful team at Tackle World Miami so make sure you swing by their store for the best tips and gear before your next fishing trip!

SECRET HARBOUR / PORT KENNEDY / ROCKINGHAM / SAFETY BAY / WARNBRO SOUND

Boats: Pink snapper have been going gangbusters with most crews having success when weather windows have popped up. There have been quite a few juvenile fish in the 35-49cm range to sift through before bigger models to 90cm have turned up. Anchoring and using burley has been the go with many crews sticking close to rock walls and structure such as Woodman Point, the Garden Island causeway, near the ASI groynes and out from the grain terminal. Good pinkies have also been landed at the Sisters and the D9 with a couple of big mulloway also caught in Cockburn Sound.  All these locations have held plenty of decent skippy. Clear water in 3m has also produced good numbers of squid on Parmelia Bank, off Woodman Point, inside of Garden Island, behind Penguin Island and in Mangles Bay. It's not looking too bad both today and tomorrow, but conditions will get more choppy and windy out on the water from Sunday to Wednesday.

Land-based: Shore fishers haven’t missed out on the pink snapper action either with good fish being landed at Woodman Point and the Rockingham Jetty. The beaches have been trickier to fish because of weed, but Secret Harbour, Long Point and Port Kennedy have produced good fish often on the outgoing tide when weed has been less of a problem. Half a herring on snelled hooks has been the pink snapper bait of choice. A few big tailor have been taken from the beaches as well. Long Point threw up several late-night salmon this week and a good one was landed at Rockingham Jetty which also produced a couple of metre plus mulloway. Palm Beach Jetty, Rockingham Jetty and the Ammo Jetty have held herring and scaly mackerel and these locations along with Point Peron have been worth a crack for squid.

These great fishing tips were provided by the friendly team at Compleat Angler & Camping World in Rockingham, so make sure you chat to their experienced crew in store and stock up before heading out!
Perth catches
A lot of fishers tried their luck off the rock walls for some storm pinkies and @daniel.dimech.9 managed to land two nice fish off Quinns Rocks earlier this week.

Boats

Inshore pink snapper chasers have been getting fish off Fremantle, along with herring and good skippy, while bigger pinkies have been caught around Rottnest Island and Carnac Island. Squid have been holding in deeper water than usual, but sand whiting have been in close off Fremantle and Cottesloe. The West End of Rottnest Island has also offered a few Spanish mackerel and shark mackerel, which has been a pleasant surprise given the colder weather setting in. Waters in the northern suburbs have also fished well for pink snapper, with the Three-Mile Reef going well. Today is looking like the best weather for a while, although tomorrow might be manageable despite a bit of chop expected with the moderate north-easterly winds. Expect white cap waves and stronger northerly winds after that until at least Thursday morning.

Shore-based

Not what you would usually see in the metro section but this 69cm mud marlin is a pretty impressive catch on fly for @jameslauchlan! James and his pal were fishing all morning throwing the usual carp flies with no luck, so they threw on some bigger flies in black leech patterns which finally saw a strike.

Pink snapper have been caught intermittently at day and night from North Mole. South Mole has produced a couple as well and both Moles have produced the odd mulloway. Herring have been plentiful at the Moles and have been the favoured bait for pink snapper fishers. North Mole has also produced nice mixed bags of garfish, skippy, tarwhine, flathead, snook and sand whiting, often on the harbour side. Both Moles offered a few squid. A few pink snapper were taken from the Coogee rock walls, but the northern rock walls fished best for them this week. Hillarys, Mindarie, Ocean Reef and Two Rocks all produced good pinkies, along with skippy in the 40-50cm range. A few pink snapper have hit the sand at the northern beaches, while Swanbourne Drain and Scarborough have produced herring and 35-45cm tailor. The South Fremantle rock walls have held garfish, skippy and a few squid and bream which have started to show up in the marinas. In the Swan River, squid have been caught mainly at night in North and East Fremantle and they could be worth targeting after dark at Claremont Jetty, Mosman Bay Jetty and Green Place Reserve Jetty. Swan River bream chasers have continued to concentrate on structure from Bayswater downstream, while a few big mulloway have been active throughout the system. Chopper tailor have been taken from jetties in the lower reaches and a flathead pushing 60cm was caught in the Applecross area. Both tonight and tomorrow look best for land-based fishing across this weekend before the nasty northerly winds return from Sunday onwards.

A big thanks to Compleat Angler Nedlands for their great tips! These guys are all avid fishers, know the best spots for every particular species and have provided great support to Recfishwest and metro fishers for many years. Make sure you ask their super friendly team for advice at their store just off Stirling Highway and stock up before wetting a line off the land or boat!
