The bass are in transition at the moment at guntersville as a big group is preparing to spawn with the warming water and new moon approaching. The outside grass line fish have moved to the spawning areas and the creek channel fish have moved into the prespawn areas. There is also an abnormal amount of schooling fish at the moment which simply dis...

The big ones are biting. If you want to catch a big fish March is the time to do it. Most of the fish remain prespawn at the moment and they are feeding up for the spawn. I did 3 guide trips last week and we averaged 20 bass landed per day and the size was excellent. The fish I am targeting are within proximity of the spawning bays but still out...

The weather is warming and the moon is waxing which means big groups of hungry bass are moving out of the channel and searching for food in the shallows. There will be a group spawn on this moon phase but I think the vast majority will remain prespawn for a while. The key to finding these fish is setting up on a high percentage area near a spawni...

Day 1 of the Toyota series at guntersville displayed the incredible fishery we have. 28 pounds is leading,20 pounds is 29th and 59th is 18 pounds. These weights are incredible and as the weather improves the fishing will just get better. You can catch them any way you want to right now. Livescopers are catching fish, the offshore rock piles...

Water temps have risen from 39 to 55 in two weeks and the lake is fishing very strong. The BFL is Saturday and the Toyota is next week. I expect big weights at the top and the check cut will take a strong showing as well. I did 3 guide trips this week and we caught 20-35 bass per day with our best 5 ranging from 17-21 pounds per day. You can catc...

The weather has stabilized and the fishing is incredible at the moment. Last week I did 4 guide trips and we landed a total of 95 bass from 3-7 pounds. There are 3 dominant patterns at the moment. A big swimbait slow rolled around the bridge columns is a great way to win a tournament with huge weight. A football jig fished in 12 feet near channel...

The bass fishing at Weiss is excellent at the moment. The lake is clearing up from the recent rains and is at winter pool which is 3 feet low. We are catching 15-20 per day and the size is excellent with our best 5 ranging from 16-19 pounds on most days. The spots are feeding on the gravel bars and humps in the current and our best baits for spot...

Wow!!! 5 days of extreme cold followed by 65 degree weather has yielded phenomenal fishing as expected. The grass is thinned out and the bass are feeding. This week we have caught them at will all day every day. This time of year the average fish is 4 pounds and they are healthy and beautiful. There are 3 dominant patterns on the lake at the mome...

This extreme cold will absolutely make spring bass fishing better. Several environmental factors are at play here. One thing that will happen is the entire water column is now cold. As soon as it warms up bass will flood the shallows. The next big factor is the aquatic vegetation will thin out and it will group up the fish and it's easier to...

The rain and cooler weather has the spotted bass feeding aggressively and some big largemouth are showing up as well. There are 3 different patterns at the moment that are working. A 3/8 brown and orange jig fished at a 45 degree angle on the bluffs is a great way to catch big spots right now. Cranking hard spots in 6-9 feet is working as well pr...

Wow. Guntersville is ridiculous. Congratulations to Eric Lampkin for winning the New Year's Day tournament with 5 fish that weighed 32.3 pounds. It took 29 pounds to get a check. There were many 20 plus pound bags that got a pat on the back. Guntersville has worked hard to maintain a healthy fishery with excellent habitat and the recent stock...

2023 was my best year to date as far as total bass catches is concerned. My boat averaged over 30 bass landed per day and the size was excellent landing 5@18-19 pounds regularly. My crappie guides also had an excellent year limiting out on most trips and filling a cooler every time. I did 187 trips this year and I look forward to doing even more...

It's 65 degrees and the bass are feeding at guntersville. The bass are starting to position themselves strategically for the spawn. Points and humps out from spawning areas are where our best fishing is at the moment. Depths from 6-9 feet are usually best and our best baits have been crankbaits and chatterbaits. This time of year we get 15-20...

Wow!!! This week was one for the ages. I guided everyday this week and guntersville showed out for us. Warm weather and good water color set the stage for phenomenal fishing. My clients averaged landing 25 bass per day with the average size almost 4 pounds. We tripled up on 5 pounders Wednesday and ended the day with 8 fish over 5 and two over 6....

Winter fishing has become my favorite time to be on Guntersville. In December and January the usually crowded ramps are empty and the fish are hungry. The last two weeks on half day trips my clients have averaged landing 17-18 bass and the average size is about 3.75 pounds with many fish over 4 pounds. There are 3 ways to  approach winter fi...

November has been the best in years maybe decades. The water is warmer than normal and the fish are feeding agressively. Yesterdays water temp was 61 so December is setting up to be spectacular. As the nights cool the water off the bigger fish will move out of the channels to feed up for the upcoming spawn. The primary forage is still shad but bl...

Neely Henry is on fire!!! I did 2 guide trips at Neely Henry this week and we landed about 35 a day with several big fish. There are 3 main patterns emerging relative to the fall bite. Cranking rock is a Neely staple and it's getting good. A swimjig in the water willow is a great way to put them in the boat. The most fun way to catch them is...
