Without a doubt exceptional days are becoming standard on Viking/CRESLI whale watching trips this season! Once again we found a large group of humpbacks approximately twelve miles from Montauk. We first encountered a group of three humpbacks feeding on dense shoals of bait (likely sand eels) midway through the water column. We know this because […]

Captain JR reports another great day of fishing on the Viking Starlite. Today was much like our last trip over to the island. The sea bass fishing was excellent with all anglers quickly getting a beautiful limit of knot head bass. The fluking was on par as we found some lovely flatties in the mix […]

Capt Steven Sr. reports a slower day of fishing today on the Viking Star. The drift was very slow this afternoon which made for difficult fishing but we did manage some action between Porgies and SeaBass. We had more Porgies this afternoon than we did this morning but the slow drift made it tough to […]

Captain JR reports a good day of Block Island fishing. The sea bass were literally in every area we fished. From small to XL they were very hungry. We easily kept a limit of very nice knot heads. The fluking was definitely a little off from what it was but we did have a decent […]

Capt Dave reports a productive day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. After a few days docked up after weather cancellations we were finally able to get back out and the Porgy bite was on. We did some fishing in our usual spots and had a good shot of medium to large Porgies with […]

The bucktail jig fished off a float was the hot lure yesterday.  The best pattern for me all summer was to hit the shore in rough and stormy conditions.  Those days would produce some resident fish. Yesterday was no different except for one exception. I found good numbers of fish for the first time this summer. It was really rough yesterday due...

Capt J.R. reports that we once again had to hide from the strong winds all afternoon on the Viking Star. However we did still manage a couple Porgies and SeaBass as well as some short Fluke. We did have some action just not much to keep. Overall we had some fish in the buckets despite […]

Another trip another multispecies day  Well we keep on finding them.  The visibility was exceptional and once we got within 5 nautical miles of  the whale grounds we saw blows breaches and other activity easily.  The whales dolphins and pelagic birds were out there just as they have been now for weeks.  Some feeding near […]

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. First thing this morning fishing was excellent with a great shot of Porgies for about 30-45 minutes and the tide switched and the bite dropped out. We started to work our way to the east to escape the tide and had ok […]

Capt Carl reports a fine morning of 1/2 Day Family Fun Fishing on the Viking Starlite this morning. The water was a bit brown and dirty where we started off so we made a move and found some cleaner water and hungry fish! Black Sea Bass and Porgies made up the majority of the catch […]

What a great day! We first headed out towards Montauk Shoals to search for a young whale that was seen earlier in the morning during a fishing trip. The juvenile humpback was spotted alongside a small group of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphin. As we waited for the whale to surface following a shallow dive we were […]

Capt Dave reports pretty good fishing today on the Viking Starship. Today’s conditions weren’t great with the strong tide and light wind so we did spend most our morning drifting off the lighthouse picking through some smaller stuff. We eventually zeroed in on some larger fish about mid-way through the trip and had our large […]
