In August 1918, the freighter Proteus collided with a tanker off Cape Hatteras and now rests in 125 feet of water about 25 miles south of the Hatteras Inlet. Dimensions: 390 x 48 x 29 The wreck commonly host big Amberjack and Sand Tiger Sharks. It also holds Vermillion Snapper, Black Sea Bass, Triggerfish, and some Grouper.
