Melbourne Fishing

Melbourne Fishing

Melbourne is the quintessential city of Down Under. As the largest city in the state of Victoria, Melbourne sits on the southern tip of the country. It gained popularity with travelers thanks to its key position on Port Phillip Bay. Today, the city is known for its bustling commerce and vibrant culture, but it is also an appealing destination for nature lovers. The city stretches to the Hinterlands, and the beautiful coastline is attractive. That is why Melbourne fishing is such a popular attraction.

Melbourne may be a coastal city, but much of the best Melbourne fishing is actually freshwater. In fact, Albert Lake is one of the areas hidden gems. The area is quite rural, and the waters are great for catching Trout, Perch and Carp. Another popular fishing source is the Maribyrnong River. The fish species here include Bream, Garfish, Eel and Redfin. Other waterways are the Yarra River and the Patterson River.

Beyond the freshwater, you can look to the shoreline for more Melbourne fishing opportunities. There are numerous places for inshore fishing. When fishing in shallow waters just off the coast or at the inlets of local rivers, you can catch a lot of different species. Snapper is quite common here, and you are likely to snag some Dusky Flathead or even some Salmon. Squid, Mulloway and sharks are also accessible in these waterways.

You will also have the opportunity for deep-sea fishing. When you venture farther away from the coastline, you open up your fishing possibilities. If you like Tuna, then Melbourne is a great spot. There are numerous species off the coast. This includes Bluefin Tuna and Yellowfin Tuna. For anglers looking for a big catch, Melbourne is an excellent choice for fishing. Deep-sea hauls here have included Striped Marlin, Mahi-mahi and more.
