Port Hacking Fishing

Port Hacking Fishing

Port Hacking is a small bayside suburb south of Sydney, with a 64 square mile (165km) estuary of the same name adjacent to it. The estuary is sourced by the Hacking River, named after Henry Hacking, a game hunter who discovered the river while hunting. In the 1860s, pioneer Holt owned most of the land that is now Port Hacking and it was officially proclaimed a suburb in 1973. Aboriginal peoples used Port Hacking for fishing and trade for more than 8,000 years before it became developed. Still today, Port Hacking fishing can be great all year round.

Some of the top catches fishing Port Hacking inshore waters include Black Bream, Dusky Flathead, Tailor (Bluefish), and Whiting. Nearshore anglers often target Cobia, Nannygai, Pink Snapper (Pinkies), Samson Fish, Spangled Emperor, and Spanish Mackerel on the many nearby shipwrecks, reefs, rocks and ledges. Offshore fishing can produce Dolphinfish (Mahi-mahi), Mako Sharks, Thresher Sharks, Wahoo. And Yellowfin Tuna,. There is also good billfishing with lots of Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, and Swordfish in the canyons.
