Galveston Fishing Report

Galveston Bay Fishing Guides

Mother Nature has definitely made the month of May a bit out of the ordinary this year.  With record amounts of rainfall in Texas, mixed with some very windy days - it has made open water fishing somewhat of a challenge for our Galveston Fishing Charters.  It is during these kinds of conditions we will find shelter from the winds in the back lakes and bays of Galveston.  Red fish do not mind the fresh water run off near as much as speckled trout.  The past week Galveston Red Fish were in our sights!

Galveston Bay Fishing Charters

If there is one quality that sets us apart from most Galveston Fishing Charters is our Family Friendly Fishing Guides that are so very good with kids and even the unexperienced adults.  Madeline and her Dad Stephen have been fishing with us for four years now.  Madeline has come a very long way, and is one of the most skillful 9 years old I have ever seen while fishing.  This past week Stephen and Madeline fished with us, and Madeline once again caught a large variety of fish.  Red fish, speckled trout, croakers, and drum all were caught in a half day trip.  Live shrimp under a popping cork was the hot ticket, and putting alot of "Pop" on the cork was definitely key.  Water clarity has been off due to the rain and high winds earlier in the week.

Not only is Madeline now very proficient in how she battles the fish - she now baits her own hook, casts herself, and even uses pliers and takes the hooks out of the fish!  Once again it was a great day with Madeline and her Dad Stephen aboard!

The key to the areas we have had our best luck the past week is wind blown banks.  The reason wind blown banks produce very good at times is the bait fish get pushed to these banks from the high winds.  Once these small shrimp, shad, mullet and even small crab get slammed to these banks - red fish will find these 'trapped' areas and begin feeding on the easy prey.  This has been a very good pattern lately when the winds are high.

Another highlight of the week was a 31-1/2" Red Fish with 39 spots!  This fish is a trophy caliber redfish, and Mike is getting a replica made of the amazing fish!  This fish hit on a live shad in 2 foot of water.  What a great day!!  You just never know when you are going to catch a trophy of a lifetime on Galveston Bay!

Galveston Fishing Outlook

Galveston Offshore Fishing

The outlook for summer time fishing in Galveston is very, very good.  June is typically a month of stable weather patterns, warm water temperatures and some very hungry fish.  With so many different species of fish to target during June - it is no wonder Galveston is the best fishing destination on the Texas Gulf Coast.  Just a few of the species of fish we will target this next month are speckled trout, redfish, flounder, drum, Spanish mackerel, red snapper, cobia, sharks, king fish, mahi, wahoo, tarpon, Gulf trout, and many more!  This is a great time of year to spend a day on the water with our seasoned Galveston Fishing Guides.  If you want to night fish for speckled trout, fish the beach front for sharks, target redfish in the shallow back lakes, go offshore and slam some Giant Red Snapper, or go on a night time flounder gigging trip - this is the month to do it!

June will also kick off our weekly Galveston Summer Fishing Camps for Kids.  We will hold these camps every Wednesday thru the second week of August.  Click here for more information.
