Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Hopefully everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July! Weather was beautiful over the weekend and the lake was busy with people enjoying the great fishing!
Devils Lake is truly a special lake! There are so many ways to catch fish on Devils Lake right now.
So it is now at the point where you can fish any presentation that you enjoy the most. Bobbers, vertical jigs, pitching jigs, trolling bottom bouncers and spinners, even trolling lead core has produced.
Our best depths are 12-25 feet. We are working humps, rock piles, flooded roads and the old shoreline (20-24 ft) for our best results.
Best live baits are leeches and crawlers. Each day is different as to what they prefer, so make sure you have both!
Some ideas if you are going to be fishing Devils Lake this week....
1. Slip bobbers! Use a white hook tipped with a leech. Keep the bait about 8 inches off the bottom and get ready!! Remember, reel the slack up and sweep the rod, Don't Jerk!!
2. Trolling cranks. #4 and #5 Salmo Hornets have been deadly!
3. Good old bottom bouncer with a spinner. Seems like hammered gold, chartreuse, orange, purple, and even just a slow death hook have all been solid. Use 2 ounce bottom bouncer and work 12-25 feet of water. Remember, Colorado blades are always a good choice to start with, but there are days when the money maker blades, pk dakota discs, and the smile blades have been hot. Mix it up and let the fish tell you what they want.
White bass and pike remain in the shallows. Look for pike to slide out deeper as we are getting more into summer. There will be shorter windows for them to feed. As for white bass, July and August is usually some of the best months to catch them! They can be as shallow as 2 ft and all the way out to 30 plus. Watch your electronics and cover water! Jig/plastic combos are always a solid option when chasing bass around. Mimic minnows, sliders, and walleye assassins are always effective!
Remember to Head to Ed's for all your bait, tackle, on/off sale, fuel, snacks, and some of the friendliest service around!!
