Con Club Derby Day 2 and Day 3

 | By Seamus on 8/6/2012 10:19:42 PM | Views (335)

Day 2-August 4
Well, Team 24 started Day 2 in 67th place out of 100 boats.   The Con Club derby allows for
4 team members, but only 3 can fish each day.   I had a charter, so Gary and Gerb
agreed to take my son Jack as the third team member.   As noted in my charter blog
(Aug.4), it was pretty windy to start, and definitely hot.    They worked the same
general area as we did, and also found the fish to be running a bit bigger than we have
seen of late.

Much like my trip, the 160 slide was working, although Gary changed that up running
a Kermit Contender spoon.   10 color was also good.

We monitored the action from the dock as we quit before the "Kongo" team did,
and heard they had a good one in the box!   Turns out it was 10.02 lbs, good enough
for 4th place for the day, and a 3 fish box of 26.31 lbs.   Definitely moved us up!

Day 3-August 4 (again)
By rule, the Derby allowed teams to start fishing for the next day after they had
weighed in the current day.   With a deteriorating forecast, and a strong day 2
box, it became apparent that we needed to head back out again!

So, I subbed back in for Jack, we grabbed more beverages and a bite to eat
and away we went.    Ended up boating 4 more walleye before we quit a 9:30 pm,
and iced them for the final weigh-in.   Turned out to be a good idea, as Sunday
Lake Erie rolled!    Long day of fishing....I got to the boat at 5:45 am for my
trip; and ended up heading home shortly after 10 pm.  Whew!

On Sunday we weighed on for just about 16lbs, or a 3 day total of 57.89 lbs.
Utimately good for 35th out of 100 boats for the team portion.     The 10.02
ended up as the 7th heaviest fish of the derby!   Not to bad at all!!

Thank you to the NCCC for a great derby, and to my team for a great couple
of days!
