Metolius River - November 8th 2013

Fishing: Excellent

 As the month of October comes to an end for 2013 so does the angling on the upper mainstem of the Metolius.  However the rest of the 18 or so miles of river are open to angling.    

Bugs to keep youre eyes tuned for on top of the water;
BWO's, Little Brown Stone, and Midges.
below the surface; Golden Stone nymph, Fall Caddis nymph, midge pupa/larva, and attractor B.H. nymphs - flashy trashy is always a good idea on the Metolius (P.T.'s, B.H. gold ribbed Hares ear, Rainbow Warriors, Micro mayfly's, lightning bugs, etc) because of the speed of the flow the river pushes bugs by fish quickly.
 
Bull trout - yes they are still present in great numbers, BIG streamers, 8wt, rods and 3x leaders.

Kokanee salmon - It seemed to me and others that I spoke with, that their numbers were very low in the upper 9 miles this season, not sure why that was the case this year.  I walked Lake creek several times in the meadows and did not see a one, that is disturbing as well.

Chinook or Steelhead- Did anyone here of any Chinook or Steelhead returns to the Metolius this year?  I did not yet I am still keeping my fingers crossed that "some day" they will be back in great numbers, I guess time will tell us.

As always have a great time while fishing/hiking/birding/etc., on the Metolius and be respectful of all the river users.

I had another great season at the Camp Sherman Fly Shop and want to thank all of you that came in, shared a fishing report/story, "secret" fly pattern, or just a nice story about your time while at Camp Sherman.  I also meet some very wonderful folks while giving casting lessons and came away with new friendships from those classes.
