Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It's been a busy few days here in Islamorada at Bud n' Mary's Marina. It seems like a lot of people are down here for Thanksgiving. We had some windy and rainy weather at the end of last week, but a handful of boats still fished in it. This time of year we are fishing the edge of the reef most the time, which is only about 4 miles from shore. If it's windy we'll fish patch reefs (shallow reef areas in 15 - 25' of water) many days, and still catch plenty of snapper, grouper, and mackerel. It's usually an action packed experience. Of course plenty of boats are still anchoring up on the main reef line in 50 - 90' of water too. The bottom fishing has been pretty good the last week, with yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, mutton snapper, red grouper, and black grouper. If you want to catch something big there's been some very large bull sharks on the reef, and they are great fighters if you want a big pull! While live baiting on the edge of the reef and deeper wrecks we've seen some sailfish action, king mackerel, a couple tuna, and a fair amount of unexpected mahi! The sailfish bite has changed day to day, with today being the slowest day the past week , with just one fish released amongst the fleet, but yesterday about 1/2 the boats released sailfish, including the Predator with 5 releases and the Catch 22 with 4 releases. Some boats had as many as 15 mahi the last couple of days, which I had counted them out the past couple weeks, but you just never know! I think we will still see a few here and there but I wouldn't plan on catching many of them as we get into December fishing in Islamorada. We have another serious cold front coming through Wednesday afternoon and lots of bait has showed up on the edge of the reef the last couple of days, so I am expecting a nice bite of sailfish at the end of this week! There's been lots of families with kids out the last few days, all of them having great trips! You don't have to be a serious fisherman to have a wonderful time down here fishing in the Florida Keys. Give us a call in the office for your next Florida Keys Deep Sea Fishing Trip at 305 664 2461 and we'll set you up with a great boat!
