Z Fish Report (11/3/16)

Bart Phillips, of Townsend, WA fished a day with Adolfo on the panga Dos Hermanos
Offshore (average) surface water temperature - Includes from the 5-6 mile mark at the 100 fathom line, on out to about 50 miles with the 1,000 fathom line being at 32 miles: 88°
Inshore (average) surface temperature. From the beach to about 5 miles: 86°
Blue water: The water is a bit discolored to about 8-13 miles off the beach. The blue water is from about 13 miles on out. (Chlorophyll amounts and surface temps from Terrafin SST)
Offshore- About the same all this month. Very slow fishing offshore for all species.
We are averaging 1 sailfish raised to the boat and less than 1 hooked per boat per day.
There are still very few dorado, and no yellowfin tuna.

Inshore: The roosterfish and jack crevalle are providing the best action. It is not great action, but steady. And, you have to work for it. Here is what Russ Weaver from Corvallis OR emailed me last week when he fished with Jesus (Hay-soos) on The Princesa Marcy: I boated 2 roosters and 5 jacks but had a bunch more follows and good shots at several more roosters. Really not too bad considering I was the only rod fishing (I don't want to winch in fish the crew hooks). We ran to about Valentine (Balen-teen) and worked way past the antennas.

And, here is what Keith Paul of Minn. told me after he fished with Cheva on the panga Dos Hermanos II this Tuesday: The sun topped the mountains as we passed Barra de Potosi and the White Rocks, around the point and on down Valentine beach to where we would start.

Checking the water clarity as we went, it was apparent that the river had opened a channel under the sand bar, and the clean waters of last week or so were no longer there. Cheva hunted up and down the beach for pockets of water that were "less dirty" that the rest, and when I say dirty, I mean you couldn't see more than a foot or two though the swirling brown, and what wasn't brown was green. Several stretches off a hundred meters or so would be "better" in relative terms, and that is where we found few fish.

On this trip, only one smaller Jack fell to a surface lure (Roberts Ranger) with all others taken trolling a live bait. I need to get me a sticker for the tackle box "Live Bait!! Don't leave the Dock Without It" It saved the day this trip.

I caught a handful of Jacks, two of which were of a size to beat the hell out of me, and one nice 15 Lb class Rooster.

If you are vacationing here, and you "think" you might try fishing, there is no better destination in my opinion. About everything you would want to fish for is available at one time or another, the cost is more reasonable than about anywhere else that I have fished, and there is a cadre of Very Professional Captains for you to fish with. - Keith
