Z Fish Report (10/20/16)

We are getting ready for our high season. Already, long time fishing clients Keith Paul (Minnesota) and Russ Weaver of Oregon are arriving this next week to take advantage of the inshore fishing and roosters. They plan on it every year, and do well.

Offshore (average) surface water temperature - Includes from the 5-6 mile mark at the 100 fathom line, on out to about 50 miles with the 1,000 fathom line being at 32 miles: 83°
Inshore (average) surface temperature. From the beach to about 5 miles: 81°
Blue water: The water is a bit discolored to about 6-7 miles off the beach and just beyond the 100 fathom curve. Then it is “clean” for the next 5 miles, and blue from about 30 miles on out. (Chlorophyll amounts and surface temps from Terrafin SST)
Offshore- About the same all this month. Plus, this is the slowest time of the year for sport fishing and the time when most of the boats are pulled from the water, getting their bottom cleaned, fresh paint, and whatever repairs needing to be done.
Today (Thursday), I was talking to a commercial fishing friend, whose boat is out of the water and getting cleaned. He told me everything is slow offshore.
We are averaging 1 sailfish raised to the boat and less than 1 hooked per boat per day.
There are still very few dorado, and no yellowfin tuna.
Inshore: Very few fishermen, and little reported action. The roosters and jacks are here, and the inshore is not muddied up from any heavy rains, which is a relief from years past.

Adolfo, on the panga Dos Hermanos, is still getting a few clients and has been logging 3-5 roosters a day.
Cheva, on the panga Dos Hermanos II had a great day with Tim Howell of Houston, and his son Adam. This is what Tim emailed me:  My son and I had a fantastic time. 7 roosters and 2 jacks one small 5 lb. and one 15ish guessing on weight. We headed south of the bay and went way south. I would say 25 miles. I have attached a couple of pics. Feel free to use as you wish. Me with my first rooster of the day and my son Adam with the bigger of the two jacks he caught. The only thing Adam said after boating the fish was “damn dad you were right about these things fighting like the devil".  Great fun!
