This has been a week of cold and snow!
The current temperature is 22 below! We are making ice! We are seeing 15 plus inches in many places now. Again, there can always be areas with less so continue to use caution.

Lake conditions...

We did receive a good amount of snow. Travel on the lake is still doable with tires, but as snow starts to drift and become hard, it will get trickier. If you have tracks bring them when you come. This will allow you to go wherever you want. One very nice aspect about Devils Lake is there is great fishing often very close to the roads. You don't always have to go out many miles to be on fish. Check out maps or your chip and try to find drop off areas, the old shoreline, flooded roads, trees, etc. There are many areas where you can walk out and be in solid fishing!

As for the bite...we are just starting to really get the season cranked up! We are extremely busy and will be searching near in far for those elusive yellow jackets. We seem to be having our best luck working deeper holes near or adjacent to the old shoreline. We have caught perch along the old shoreline as well. We have even caught some up really shallow in 10 feet of water. Perch are searching for an easy meal, so try to figure out where that is and you will be on them.

The walleye action is at its best from 730am to 1030am and then again in the afternoon from 3pm to 5pm. We are still using buckshots, pk spoons, forage minnows, and slender spoons for our best results. Most of the time a minnow head will do the trick!

As for the perch we have used everything from aggressive lures such as: buckshots, halis, pk spoons, kastmasters, basically any blade type lure. We have also used tungstens, genz worms, ratfinkies, and smaller hooks under a slip bobber. Tipped with a full minnow, minnow head, or spikes. Each day even hour can change as to what they want so play around with minnows and spikes and see what they prefer.

We are closing in on 2021, we hope you have a safe and warm trip on the big pond!!

Good luck to all and have a Happy New Year!
