7/3 2 PBs in 1 day Musky & Walleye

Left outta selfridge about 2PM went out to about 9' of water. The kid was dragging crawlers so I grabbed the musky rod and hit the front of the boat. Was casting my favorite bucktail and it only took about 15 minutes 2 hookup. I could tell it was a bigger fish as it was taking line from the start. Of all the days I left the musky net at home, so I had to use the regular net. My son held the pole and I got most of the fish in the net and lifted, I thought the net was going to break it was so heavy. I got it unhooked quick and lifted it for pic and flipped it in. It immediately popped back up and turned bellyup and flopped around a bit. I grabbed the fish and held it upright for a good minute or 2 and then pushed it off, it kicked its tail and it went down. We hung around for 15 minutes or so and the fish never surfaced wink.gif . I hope she made it for somebody else to catch. I never measured the fish, never seen one this big in person, I guessing 48-50" ?? Any guesses ???? Later in the day we hit the mouth of the shipping channel acting on BayDeNoc's post and I decided 2 try jigging for the 1st time. I bought some walleye jig heads at the novi fishing show awhile back, so I pulled them out. They were charteuse so I decided to try a chart w/sparkles FinS minnow. I jigged for 5 minutes and a lower the jig when I had a nice hit that I missed, a couple minutes later was lower it when I had another and set the hook on a fish. When I first saw the fish coming up I thought it was a pike/musky due to how long it looked. When it got to the side of the boat and my soon scooped it up the fish turned and I saw it was a wally. When the nethit the floor I couldnt belive how big the fish was. It was just over 29" caught half hour before dark. Read More
