2-7-13 Deep Sea Fishing in Islamorada

 | By Seamus on 2/4/2013 12:00:12 PM | Views (517)

The weather has been absolutely fantastic the past few days while deep sea fishing in Islamorada. Most of the boats have been staying on/near the edge of the reef and there's still been quite a variety of fish being caught. A couple boats have ventured further offshore and are starting to see some action in the deeper water. Today the Bn'M caught their first daytime swordfish of 2013 with Victor from Puerto Rico. It wasn't a monster but the saying goes "a sword is a sword", and it was his first one ever so all he has left for his "royal slam" is a spear fish now... Good Luck!!! The Fearless also went Islamorada Offshore fishing this morning at the "hump". They caught plenty of "football" blackfin tunas (2-5 lbs) while doing some trolling. Some bigger 20+ lb tunas should show up soon out there. Back on the Reef today the Relentless had a great day releasing 5 sailfish. The Finnster had a good catch of king mackerel and a few barracuda for some action, and the gon fishin V had a nice catch of delicious yellowtail snapper. Yesterday was the "poor girls" sailfish tournament, which is a fun tournament for all the ladies to get out and enter an inexpensive tournament for some great prizes. The Reel McCoy and Catch 22 both released 3 sailfish, which had them tied for 3rd place, but unfortunately one other boat had 3 before them. The Cloud Nine had a few keeper cobia and some jacks, and the Kalex also was patient and put the time in searching for cobia up inside the reef and managed to catch some too. The Gon Fishin had plenty of snapper including some decent size mutton snapper. The day before the Bn'M had an afternoon half day charter and caught some lane snappers for dinner and then went for a big pull and caught a nice 40 lb amberjack, which is a tough fishing fish, and then caught and released some barracuda for fun before wrapping up an Islamorada Fishing Charter!
