If you haven’t fished The Met in September, get your butt out here! It is probably my single favorite month to fish all year.  The insect diversity and abundance is off the charts.  Rainbows and Bulls are active.  Kokanee are moving in from Lake Billy Chinook.  If you are dry fly fishing, you will be amazed at the amount of bugs flying around.  Of course such a large menu for the ‘Bows allows them to be very picky and spooky. Use 6x with dries.  Be prepared with multiple patterns of each relevant insect…refusals are common.  I sat in one pool the other day and counted 7 different insects bouncing on the water so bring your best insect identification and fly selection knowledge with you.  Otherwise, it’s a great opportunity to develop these skills that are invaluable fishing The Met.

Looks for all these bugs as we have seen them everyday…there is no magic fly…the key is to identify what exactly the fish are rising to at any given moment, at any given spot on the river...
