Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing Boats have been pretty busy the past week. I was out of town for a week but I'm back now and ready to tell you whats been biting off Islamorada. The fishing overall has been decent. There's been a lot of big schools of mahi, but mostly on the smaller side. A lot of fish we have been measuring to see if they make the legal limit of 20'' to the fork of the tail, but after picking through a few big schools of fish most of the boats have still had plenty for dinner. The boats have been averaging about 20 keeper mahi each day and also have been releasing that many if not more that are undersize (but still fun to catch for some action!). Between the fleet of boats there has still been a few gaffer size dolphin and a couple slammers hanging up each day, but hopefully they will become as plentiful for this weekends' purple isle charity dolphin tournament that will be hosted at Bud n' Mary's Marina. The blackfin tuna bite has finally picked up this summer and there's been quite a few footballs around (tuna in the 3-7 lb range that are shaped just like a football), and a couple big blackfins up to 30 lbs. The yellowtail snapper bite on the reef was great today for the miss islamorada party boat, catching a limit of 200 fish by 2 p.m., but it was a little tough a few days ago with poor conditions (water clarity and current). The mangrove snapper bite should turn on out on the reef soon too, as they move out from the shallow water to go spawn near the reef edge. The Catch 22 daytime swordfished the last 2 days, and fishing wasn't easy. They didn't have any bites yesterday, but today they did have 2 bites and caught about a 70 lber. The Bn'M also fished today for swords but we didn't have a strike. Here's a picture of a 48 lb monster BULL dolphin the Man O War caught a few days ago in the midst of a big pack of schoolies, and a picture of a 31 lb blackfin tuna they caught today! The Redfish released a nice white marlin while trolling the other day too, they also had plenty of schoolies too. There's also been the occasional wahoo and tripletail of floating debris, and a couple amberjack on the humps. I'd expect to see some more mahi and tuna at the dock this coming week, so give us a call when you're ready to book your fishing trip! 305 664 2461
