Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Well we had major wind today, 30 knots out of the east, as some wintery weather is making its way here. The temperatures hadn't dropped yet however they are suppose to in a couple days. A handful of guides ventured out today and it paid off. We are able to run the edges of the banks and stay in 2-3 foot of water on days like this mostly, so aside from a few short areas where you are in open water and just have to slowly make your way across, you can get out there fishing in almost anything. A great thing about Islamorada Backcountry Fishing. Capt. Jim Willcox and Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti made it back to the cape which is a bit longer run, but once there you are in creeks and canals so you are totally protected from the wind and in flat calm water. They got into redfish, snook, and drum with their anglers. Capt. Jim had similar fishing several days before, and also reported seeing tons of sheepshead making their way into the creeks on the bottom of the tide. Capt. Rick Stanczyk and Capt. John Johansen fished half days around some of the local islands and had a good bite of mangrove snapper as well as some lemon shark action. Previously this week the weather was much nicer. Capt. Rick had good numbers of snook the last few trips around the flamingo area fishing with pilchards. He and Capt. Dave Sisung also had a group trip a few days ago, and aside from snook also got into a mess of trout, ladyfish, snappers, and shark action. Capt. Skip Nielsen reported a good snook bite and a few nice reds out in the backcountry too. Capt. Clyde Upchurch had gorgeous weather and some good action around the islands and shallows with nice redfish nad snook several days ago too. Capt. Ben Ekblom had buddies from Georgia down they had some good snook fishing, a few nice reds, jumped some tarpon, and action with some sharks and mangrove snappers for dinner too! With the cooler weather coming in a couple days, some of our backcountry fishing can really start to light up. We have guides ready to go thanksgiving and after, if your in town and want to give it a try!
Capt. Rick Stanczyk
