Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The weather has been fairly nice and warm still in december fishing the florida keys. It blew quite a bit yesterday but today it wasn't too bad and looks to be the case for the next several days. Capt. Skip Nielsen reported a good day of fishing in the everglades back around the cape areas of the mainland several days ago. On the incoming tides he repoted great fishing and had some small tarpon and snook action with Liz and Mark Harris from Isle of Man. They released 4 tarpon and 18 snook, along with a few redfish and some nice size seatrout. They used Foxsportfishing Diablo spinning reels and Trek travel rods. Great backcountry fishing in December! The trout fishing can be very good in ditches around many flats that runoff when it starts to cool off this time of year. Today Capt. Skip reported an excellent spanish mackerel bite as well as some nice mangrove snappers for dinner. Capt. Rick Stanczyk was out fun fishing with his father, cousin Kevin Wright, and friend Ron Modra yesterday. They went way back in the 'glades as well. The higher winds out of the southeastern quadrant had muddied up many areas, but we fished some more protected areas on the southwestern coast. It took some time to find some fish, but on the start of the incoming tide they got into some good action with redfish and small snook and a few sheepshead. One other spot they also happened upon had several nice size redfish up which were eating live pilchards on the bottom. Today Capt. Rick also reported a very good spanish mackerel bite, using all artifical worked just fine. The large blacktips are around too, if you catch the falling tide it's pretty easy to hook up to nice 50+ lb bruisers! He's also been getting out into the further gulf a couple times this week and had some nice cobias out there, but you have to get them away from the bull sharks which are ravenous. They had 300 lb bullsharks and several big goliath groupers up to 150 lbs. Not much for tripletail yet on the crab buoys.
