Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The wind has been strong here in Islamorada, Florida Keys the last few days, but it hasn't stopped our deep sea fishing boats from getting out. And the good news is it looks like great weather tomorrow, with a cold front moving through on Christmas, and then nice weather for the days after Christmas. The wind let up some today and many of our boats fished around the Reef. The past few days the bottom fishing has been great! There's been lots of yellowtail snapper c, quite a few mutton snapper (including some nice fish over 10 lbs), some big mangrove snapper up to 4 lbs, a handful of black and red grouper, cero mackerel, and a few other odds and ends. All of these species have been caught on both the Reef and the patch reefs (small areas of reef in 15 - 30' of water inside the main reef). A few boats slow trolled with live bait today, kite fished with live bait, and chased some "Showers" (a shower refers to a school of bait being chased, usually by sailfish, and when they all splash in and out of the water it looks like a rain shower). The Pretty Work, Gon Fishin V, and Reel McCoy each released sailfish in addition to having bottom fish. The Kalex released 3 sailfish the other afternoon, and a few days ago the Reel McCoy had an exciting morning releasing 5 sails. In addition to the sailfish today there was a handful of blackfin tuna up to 12 lbs caught just outside the reef, as well as a couple mahi and king mackerel on the live bait. The days after Christmas look great weather wise, so give us a call to set up your own Florida Keys Fishing Trip! 305 664 2461 . The Shallow water grouper season closes December 31st, so if you love to eat grouper, come on down here and do some "grocery shopping" yourself!
