Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Fishing in the back has been steady the weather has been nice that last few days. Water is still on the chilly side so most the normal winter time stuff is still the best bet. In the everglades there has been good numbers of black drum and sheepshead with some redfish and snook mixed in. We had a mixed bag today of most those said species today. Capt. Jim Willcox reported similar fishing yesterday, with a few nice size redfish up in shallower water. Lots of boats over the weekend around flamingo and the cape area so looking forward to the work week for things to be less busy! Out front on the patch reefs the fishing is good too, Capt. John Johansen and Capt. Jeef Beeler have reported some permit out front on some of the patches. These guys take some patience but if you have the right conditions the wait is often worth it. Aside from those there are plenty of porgies, snappers, hogfish, juvenile groupers, and other rod benders to have fun with too. Today Capt. Bill Bassett reported good fishing in the gulf, the mackerels bit well they took a while to get going but did eventually fire up. He also caught a handful of nice tripletail out further. Capt. Chris Daly had good patch fishing with his family today, nice groupers, hogfish, and more! The spring time is when the triple tail fishing gets good so on calm days that is a fun thing to do. As we begin to enter february, Tarpon season is right around the corner! If we have some calm, warm days they can show up any time now.
Capt. Rick Stanczyk
