Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It's warmed up quite a bit here the last few days while offshore fishing in Islamorada. The sailfish bite remains to be a pick for the most part. Each day a few boats have been getting in on the action releasing fish, but it hasn't been super spread out. Yesterday there was some packs of fish. The Predator had a great day releasing 5 sailfish, and it all came from one occurence. They hooked a triple header, releasing two of them fairly quick, and then put out more baits and hooked up two more in addition to the one they were battling! Being ready when the opportunity strikes is key. The Reel McCoy also released 5 sails yesterday, including one triple header. When you hook multiple fish it can be quite challenging to catch them all if they all go different directions, but if you keep your eye out for the trap line and are patient it can be done! There's been some king mackerel each day and a couple blackfin tuna while live baiting. The bottom fishing on the reef has been getting a little better each day too. There wasn't much current a few days ago which made it tough, since the fish won't get into your chum line. The last couple days though there has been yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, and a few mutton snapper. February is a great month for cobia fishing. If you have patience and let the crew search for the stingrays it will pay off eventually. The schools of cobia will follow the rays, and the cobia average 10 - 40 lbs. I went out on the Bn'M II in search of daytime swordfish yesterday, but the bite was non existent for us. We made 5 good drifts but no action. As the moon starts to build again we should have some better swordfishing. We did however have some great bottom fishing on the way out, catching some really nice queen snapper up to 15 lbs and a big blueline tilefish. Give us a call in the office when you're ready to get out on the water and we'll find the right boat for you! 305 664 2461
