Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
It's been a while since we have had a strong cold front here while fishing in Islamorada, but today and tonight the winds are gonna blow and the temperatures are gonna drop. Cold for us is warm for other people, but we are looking forward the night temperatures in the low 60's for a couple days. Tomorrow morning the winds are supposed to drop back down and it should be a gorgeous day, with moderate breezes from the North and sunny skies. The fishing was a little tough overall yesterday on the offshore side of Islamorada, but the boats still figured out fish to catch. The Pretty Work released the only sailfish yesterday out of the fleet, but between all of the boats there was yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, king mackerel, a few mahi, hammerhead shark, goliath grouper, barracuda, crevalle jacks, all reported. Earlier in the week the sailfish bite was better, although the boats have been working hard at it. The Kalex had a great day on Monday releasing 6 sailfish, and most of the other boats had 1 - 2 releases. On the Bn'M we particpated in the Islamorada Bartenders Sailfish Open, which is a fun tournament for all of the local bars and restaurants, and we released a double header of sailfish early in the morning which was enough to take first place in the tournament. There was also some nice cobia caught Monday and Tuesday. When we catch cobia in Islamorada it takes time to find them, sometimes hours of searching for them inside the reef (and we don't always find them). But if you have the patience and let the crew put in the time it will pay off eventually. The Cloud Nine weighed the biggest cobia of the week, a 59 lber! There's been a few mahi and blackfin tuna each day, including a few nice fish up to 25 lbs. Also while bottom fishing we are starting to see a few more amberjack, which should only get thicker the next few weeks. There' some black and red grouper on the reef too, which are fun to catch, but we have to release them until May 1st. Hopefully the drop in temperature will spark the sailfish back up for this weekend and we'll see what else goes on. The Bn'M also got out on a daytime swordfishing trip and managed one bite, and Vince from Conneticut was able to land his first broadbill! About an 80 lber! Let us set you up on a trip when you're ready, so give our office a call at 1 800 742 7945 and we'll find the right boat for you!
